I think the problem was we were coming off of so many great sounding 800’sHonestly I thought it did classic rock and ACDC tones great but not too heavy stuff

You know --I had an SLX with 6l6 's in it and it was a great sounding amp. I truly regret selling it . I remember buying it out of a newspaper ad for 600 .00 . Head and 1960 cabinet.Definitely that was a problem . But an SLX cab be great after a noisy and fine tuning
Lol that’s how I feel about my kt88 Rev Blue modded by Reinhold . It’s the one I regret most but I couldn’t refuse the offerYou know --I had an SLX with 6l6 's in it and it was a great sounding amp. Now I'm truly depressed !!!!!
HAAA...So true...More gain and brighter every chance he got. Ears just fried to a crisp.Except for Ed, he just kept adding more gain. Like gravy size amounts of gain lol.
I agree. You want less gain, join a Jazz trio and drink martinis. I play rock and roll.theres nothing cool about less gain ever. it never sounds as good, no one ever plays as well when they are fighting the notes, its just fucking stupid if you ask me. Angus sounded the best with the smooth and liquidy sounding mark racks he used to have
Even if you swap tubes?......Amps can be like girlfriends or wives...sometimes it's just time to move on.
Yes, even if they swap boobs.Even if you swap tubes?......
For rock I agree, for metal too many go overboard. I was watching some BlackBerry Smoke live and I dig his voice and the songs are pretty good but I’m just aching for them to put the Marshall’s (Germino’s) at 6-7, instead of what sounds like 3-4. More rangle, less jangle.I agree. You want less gain, join a Jazz trio and drink martinis. I play rock and roll.
Friedman slays Magnatone and pulls back..
I've turned my gain down on amps to play ACDC, etc and there is this point where you hit a chord and it is loud but lifeless. There is a reason those guys cranked up back in the day. Diming an amp that was meant to be dimed is different than diming a 5150, etc.For rock I agree, for metal too many go overboard. Absolutely. It’s like AC/DC in the later 90’s and 2000’s got too clean, All initial hit but no sustain. No balls. Nothing like their previous, glorious filth from the late 70’s through early 80’s. Like Clapton, trying to recreate Cream on Fender combo’s and half the gain. Just No!.I've turned my gain down on amps to play ACDC, etc and there is this point where you hit a chord and it is loud but lifeless. There is a reason those guys cranked up back in the day.
