I must’ve tried over 20 pedals now with my 72, including a bunch of distortion pedals and while they did attenuate like that, I found the tone itself for my taste lacking/compromised vs on its own at volume and often times also with that voicing clash I didn’t like (especially the Uzi one), but not a bad way to get the amp useable at more reasonable levels
Yeah it seems like all 4 can bring something different and worthwhile to the table. I'd like to have a late '60's or early '70's 502 NMV as some point, it's just gotten expensive
To be sure, the Uzi is cool but HAD to be combined with the OD1X which added that upper mid/high 'grind' that resembles a Cameron mod. On its own, the Uzi is flat sounding. Griff built me a BE OD clone that sounds MUCH better, and by itself does the job and still adds that nice upper mid/top end.
Did you have any NMV Marshall's from 1972 or earlier? Maybe the MV ones are still more your thing, in some ways they work better for me too, but the NMV Marshall's I've had or tried from that time can be very impressive
I used my klon as well as other od pedals (some of which also have good presence in that area) with the Uzi I had. I didn't care the OD1X when I had one. Surprisingly the boost I liked best with my 72 is my Thorpy Team Medic (even over my real klon). It is a modern pedal technically, but among the few needles in the haystack of modern pedals I've played that to me is still very organic and raw sounding (none of that plastic-y, filtered, junky sound), but it's also super noisy with it even with my gate. Always trade off it seems lol, but it's an awesome sounding pedal. My 2nd favorite sounding boost I've had minus the noisiness
Borrowing a friends 72 100 watter currently. I enjoy it and really I’ve enjoyed all the different ones I’ve tried, but not really for anything beyond classic 70s/early 80s tones. The MV models just hold together better for what I like. I think my favorite NMV amp was a Metropoulos jtm45. That thing was amazing for cleans up to zeppelin and just had so much soul to it. I reach out to the current owner every year or so hoping I can get it back….no luck yet
An attenuator on a 100 watt Marshall is like putting a restrictor plate on a big block mopar. The ultimate killjoy move.

Hmm I have both a 2203 and 2204 and I find the 2204 waaaay squishier and the 2203 stays tight pretty much until it’s peeling paint. I put Metro loops in both, best decision ever since I like delay and volume boosts for solos.
So you just crank 100 watt plexis into overdrive and stand there in the room playing guitar?
Yes. If you have wood floors and pier and beam construction you just turned your house into a giant acoustic guitar using a Marshall. I have a Twin now and I crank that into overdrive at home and at gigs whenever I can which lately is most of my gigs since I am not heavily booked during winter.
