Parametric EQ

Graphic EQ's are easier to dial in imo,
Para EQ's are cool, but need more time to be dialed in right. Just depends what you prefer.
If I had to pick, id go with graphic EQ.

I like the TC 1140HS. In a pedal form, I like the Boss PQ4... but wish it had more output on the level know to really drive the front of an amp.

Edit: forgot to add that the Master Effects Puppet Master EQ is killer as well.

parametrics arent these complicated things many people here make them out to be, and once you understand you have full control instead of being stuck with whatever frequencies of the graphic. i dont find most of the graphics to have quite the right frequencies for guitars either, my GE7 for example going from 800 to 1.6k to 3.2k is just too wide a gap, most all the tweaking i do is between that range.

I haven’t compared it with many others, but the GUPTech pPTSD has worked well for me and it’s very reasonably priced.

I'd love to know how you have it set, I really wanted the Empress EQ to work. But there are only 3 bands with a Q setting for each band and I couldn't get it to sound great like I could with the Whirlwind Perfect 10. I'd be happy to learn it was just me not knowing how to set it right.

It's only semi-parametric, but I've really liked the Orange Two-Stroke EQ so far. The "semi" is because the 'Q' is fixed. Frequency and boost/cut is variable though. It does only have two "bands" though, so if you wanted to cut lows, scoop mids, and boost highs all at once this isn't the pedal for you. I use it as a better tube screamer. Cut some lows, add some bite, and still keep my amp sounding like my amp. It also has a built-in clean boost if I want to push the front-end a bit.

I don’t really have any specific settings, it really just depends on what I’m trying to accomplish. For instance, some times with palm mutes you might get that resonant rumble that is usually around 145hz or so that a simple narrow dip can clean up. Maybe you have some v30s that are just a little too “v30”, a little work around 3k might smooth them out to perfection. A couple minor surgical tweaks can go a long way

I love the way that new Ibanez is set up. It's also true-bypass which I was not expecting from that unit.

Me too, and it's +/- 10db, not 6 as mentioned above. Price is great. I'll definitely be trying one of these.

+6db on master volume bruh, not per band which is +10 each. Not enough to use as a boost pedal if you wanted which is a drag but would be nice in the loop.

Not sure about that.

I use an mxr 6-band as a front boost sometimes, and it has no level boost at all other than the sliders, although the sliders on those do have up to 18db on their own. So I'm not saying either way really, but I wouldn't rule it out so quickly.

Maybe with the sliders set to mid-boost and an additional bump of the level it could be great.

I like the simplicity of that Ibanez Pentatone. 5-bands will let me shelve the low and high bands, and have three mids to adjust - exactly what I want and need, nothing more, nothing less.

I recall the Pentatone with the integrated preamp and boost which isn't of interest; just the PEQ is of interest to me:

The one downside of my EQ2 is making changes on-the-fly; you have to scroll to the band, press the knob, then adjust the slider.

Good to know about the MV specs, but yeah I also wouldn't write it off just yet. Crank up those sliders where you want them, give it an extra goose with the MV and you very well may be in business. We'll see what the noise floor is like.

All of these EQ's have a inherent sound that colors the sound.

This coloring is why I like or dislike certain pedals.

I also find the Ibanez PTEQ Penatone 5-band Parametric EQ Pedal really interesting. Hopefully it will be available soon and it's inherit sound and noise level is usable.

That Ibanez pteq looks neat, a lot of control there. Good idea to use sliders for the level controls.

I think I would have preferred shelving filters for the high and low bands though, the graphic on the pedal makes it look like all 5 are peaking filters.
