NEWS FLASH: All Noise Gates Suck…Tone

I've had a few you mentioned as well, but I liked the KMA Pylon with the channel switching method. So it's off when I'm on clean channel and automatically turns on when I go to the gain channel. Plus the added boost is kinda nifty.

I had a few gates at one time. The best sounding one (least tone suck) was the mini Zuul.

I kept the phalanx…but I want to mod it for the two additional controls on the Zuul+. I just don’t know how to actually do it. ?

How exactly can a noise gate suck tone? If it is open signal passes if it is closed it doesn’t. I can see where noise reduction can, but not a noise gate. I guess if using it incorrectly and setting the threshold too high that could do something.
They can suck tone when you set it tight for metal or rock. But just add eq and more gain to getting back to where it was . It’s quite easy

My boss NS's dont suck tone at all in both my rigs. As long as you are setting them up properly in chain etc
That's what I came in here to say. I tried it again yesterday to be sure. I'm running 4 cable method with 2 amps after an ABY and then the loop of my Quick Rod. I realize I'm the noob in the room but I was standing in front of both with a MIM strat and gain up on both and didn't hear any difference on or off (in tone). Metal riffs too.

Wow, you must really like the KHDK stuff  I've heard so many good things. OD pedal specifically. Not sure which one.

The gate is so important though . Especially for metal tones , where the gate suck helps make the tone better . After the gates suck just add more gain and eq from the amp to get back to where you were . But now you have the same tone with gate . This works for me so much that I don’t judge an amp until I’ve gated it.
If you're using a shit ton of gain ya, but if you're not I don't see how it makes your tone any better especially if you have a fairly quiet amplifier. I only dial in enough gain till the palm mutes start chunking so I've never really needed a gate. I had a ns-2 with my Dimebag rig though and it worked great for that tone.

I understand playing at home with lo volume . . But even then for I like it for the tone

The last gate I used was the decimator pro 2 channel rack one. It was like 10 years ago when I was gigging but I was happy with it

KHDK makes several overdrive pedals.
In the few I have tried they cover a wide range and could be used for any type of music. Going way beyond the typical country, rock, hip hop stuff. I think a lot of the people here do the heavy stuff. They definitely work for that.

I just pulled out a few random amps and pedals to check out the Zuul+.
All three of these amps have plenty of bass. So I pulled out the pedals that control the bass better.

I wanted a faster analog noise gate. So far the Zuul+ works fine for that stuff.
