Healthy Life expectancy aka healthspan

Lifespan is the total number of years we live whereas healthspan is how many of those years we remain healthy, active and free from disease.

when we reach 60, most of us, on average, will have about 1,000 weeks of healthy, active time left (roughly 19.23 years)

The places with the fittest and longest lived people usually have the worst tasting food. Go to TX or MS to a BBQ joint and you can see how, without using advanced scientific techniques, you can convert a man into a juicy, squealing, hungry little piglet. MS is the fattest state so it's pretty clear they have some of the best tasting food in the world.

Actually, Australia comes in at no. 10 and that's because we took our COVID vaccines. Suck it up antivaxxers.

I think it's just from poor people eating huge amounts of super caloric dense, highly processed food because it's so easy/lazy to get and eat. Vast majority of those fat people aren't eating amazing BBQ, they're dropping 40 bucks in EBT at McDonalds for a "snack" and then going to WalMart and buying like 5 lbs of candy and washing it down with soda.

There are tons of youtubes/tiktoks of these people that weigh 400 lbs and what they eat all day...just an insane amount of dogshit. Seems like it's way more work to actually eat all that garbage than to go for a 20-30 min run once a day and actually cook some simple meals.

There are all the questionable bio-engineered, chemical preservatives, micro plastics, etc., and who knows what else. The long term effects are mostly unknown, but we've seen a reduction in testosterone / male sperm counts for a couple of decades, I recall a study that compared 20 something men vs 70 year olds, and the old men scored significantly higher in both. Probably has much to do with modern soyciety where these chemicals are consumed in the highest quantities.

There is really only a few possibilities that have changed through the years. Mainly food additives and gmos and the number of childhood vaccines....

But also, the deep south is probably the most miserably hot place in the US for the largest portion of the year so people sit inside, and eat. And if you ain't ever had real cracklins outta someplace like Lafayette you might not understand. Even here in central Tx you got restaurants just packed with squealing little pglets stuffing their faces. You wouldn't believe how many chicken joints alone are inside city limits down the road. It's ridiculous.

I think small quantities of those additives might do little damage, but some of the poor diet / obesity epidemic people are eating mass quantities of these additives. These people are likely a majority of the population, then add the middle class that are eating more of these chemicals, it's no wonder we're seeing a rise in various ailments as well as woke mental disorders.

I grew up eating the German version of cracklin; I remember a business trip to the UK (I actually like British, especially Scottish, as I also have Scots ancestry along with the German, and others). And the English hotel had a nightly dinner buffet, and it had cracklin...which I hadn't had for many years...let's just say I overindulged to the chagrin of my English colleague.

Now if you really want southern food, you have to go to the county fairs, where you can find the deep fried butter (snickers, etc.) sticks. And you need to add that sugar sauce on top for good measure: (I've never tried it, and won't; it looks like an instant heart attack)

I started air-frying my chicken at home, years ago..

Much better than take-out deep-fried chicken.

It's 95% eating too much, doesn't really matter that much what it is. That's all cope for over eating. People in the 1900s-1960s ate lots and lots highly processed foods as they were a 'modern miracle.' They didn't eat as much and they moved around and hardly anyone was fat.
My theory on declining test is something I've never seen before in studies, and would be easy enough to do and I'm perplexed as to why a study has never been done or seen any theorizing on it-

The later on in life a couple fosters a child, the shittier their hormone profile will be. Starting from around the 1950s in the West the average age of having first kid has been later and later on in life. Today average age of first kid is 29 for females and 32 for males (white couples). This is done because of socio-economic reasons. There's also a compounding effect of this, with at least 2 generations having their first kid at around 30.
It would be pretty easy to see if this was the cause by comparing populations where the average age of first kid is still young (18-19 is the norm in many places of the globe).
I've not seen a study that specifically says the hormone profile will be shittier, but things like less test present will be inside studies that deal with decline in IQ or height the older the couple is, and the increased prevalence of genetic and health problems.

Here's another health stat that is ridiculous- the US Gov spends 32 billion dollars managing/researching AIDS every year, and 6.2 billion for cancer. One is easily preventable. Just like not being fat.

It's processed fake chemical laced "food". USA is #1 for ultra-processed food

Read the ingredients, if you see shit that looks/sounds chemicals PUT IT DOWN.

Actually most meats, and veggies at the BBQ joints should be just fine. It's the bread, sugary drinks, sauces, potato salad, desserts, and fried okra that will convert you into a piglet :)

I eat everything and bake a lot of my own bread but I've log my calories every day for 9 years. Those things don't turn you into a pig unless you eat too much because you don't know when to stop (ie. portion sizes). Knowing the calorie total for each day stops that happening - so if you eat too much of one thing in a day you can adjust it somewhere else and cut something else. I have kept my weight in the normal BMI range for 9 years now after being 25kg overweight - so it works. I forget the stats on how many people are able to keep their weight off but it's not many people. Then again not many people have the discipline to log every calorie and make recipes and portions that you know and have worked out the calories for.

Yeah, I did the calorie counting technique 20 years ago. While it did work, I never really felt good on it. It's easier for me to eat meat, and veg. I leave the sugar, bread alone. A low carb, and low sugar diet just feels right. Plus carbs and sugar just keep you hungry, so it's an uphill battle trying to portion control.

I've found if you eat like early humans, you don't need to count anything, it just falls into place. You're feeding the machine the correct stuff, and it just works.

Sounds yummy. Where can I find some early humans ?
