So the US imposes a 25% Tariff on Canada but a 10% tariff on China.

With friends like that who needs enemies.

That actually makes me pretty angry. Seriously stop the aggression against allies. Also threats about annexing Canada and Greenland (also protected by Nato) are Putin-esque.

I don't care how leftwing Canada was/is - it's still deranged and very unAmerican imo.

You have a department of Defense (spelt badly I might add) not a department of Offence.

Also the futures on the ASX are down 1.2% due to this idiocy so stop buggering up inflation and the sharemarket.

Not to mention, the US importer pays the tariff.

  • Tariffs will likely result in higher prices for U.S. consumers, both directly and indirectly, economists say.
  • Tariffs are a tax on foreign imports that are paid by the U.S. businesses importing those products. They will likely pass those costs to customers, economists explain.

The US is laying out more than that to ensure their safety.

Buy "Made In America" only.
As an American I'm 100% on board with this as much as I possibly can; as far as generic consumer products are concerned, even it does cost me a little more. Worst case I'm at least shopping at locally owned stores vs corporate businesses. Support the local economy.
Main forum there are some "foreign amps" I would still buy if/when I get to them. Those Lichtaerm and Lenz amps look bad ass if I could eventually find a spot for them.

Why charge your enemy 10% and your supposed friend 25%.

I don't know the details of the tariffs, but my understanding is they are more than 10%; or at least will be once fully enacted if the don't play ball.

As far as Canada, they're more like acquaintances. We could be bff's one day. Right now we can get along well enough, but still have ideological differences as far as government is concerned. With Trodeau resigning and maybe a change of leadership the US and Canada can be more on the same page. I don't know enough about Canada's politics to really guage what the future holds. I know less about Mexico's politics; other than my opinion on illegal immigration and general reason for tariffs, to comment.

I think they're both 25%. For a week. Then 50% and so on.
I don't think so... but if they were to be ramped up as a punitive measure your country won't have any friends left pretty shortly. Then you'll be like the "hermit kingdom" with the Dear Leader. A rogue state.

It's funny that all"dear leaders" tend to have weird hairdos...

We haven't had tariffs like this since these 2 great leaders negotiated them away to bring their countries out of the Great Depression.

Both countries will retaliate dollar for dollar. No one wins in this type of trade war.

You think anyone in the rest of the world gives a fuck about Canada or Mexico ? At least where trade deals with the US are concerned ?

Yes, we have allies who wish us the best. Does that sound weird to Americans?

They do... they wonder where all this is going stop. I know it's talked about in our newspapers too in relation possibly happening to us. We are all wondering where this all stops. No level playing fields apparently. We already have a tariff effectively - namely shipping costs from the other side of the world. However pretty sure the US has a trade surplus with us ie. we import more from the US than you import from us.

I don't like seeing what he's doing to a peaceful democratic nation to the North though and blustering about taking it over. like I said it's Putin-esque.

Exactly, it's a weird ideology that has convinced them that international trade is a bad thing.

Should crack down on the CEO's of US companies who have outsourced to China and bring manufacturing back to the US that way rather than by imposing Tariffs. The root cause are traitors within their own country. They sold out the jobs of American citizens for cheap labour.
