Fishing was life.
Yep, northern MN here. Grew up on a lake that was connected to the Mississippi so needless to say lots of fishing, hunting, canoeing, and boating. That's pretty much all there was to do.
I just never thought anymore about it. I work and raise my kids and fuck off basically, politics and religion have never been my strong suit. The lesson here is appreciated though…
Hey no problem. PBS and NPR basically hate our guts so like Canada and Mexico, it's time to abruptly pop the tit providing the free milk out their mouths. Let them compete with private donations that way they actually have to broadcast stuff that has fair and balanced, need I say conservative(?) viewpoints or they will fail financially like the other big news corps are right now.

I know Boston Mass's zip code thanks to Zoom, circa 1978.

Best time to swim was right after dinner during a storm. No one cared back then.

Digging clams out of the sand to throw at each other (13 cousins).

+1. I thought most of these "public" broadcasting stations relied on "public" donations.
Those old marathons would show concerts.

I remember being locked up and PBS showing Fleetwood Mac The Dance live during a telethon/marathon, good old days…

Why should the government ( me and you ) fund either ? Do you know what the difference between PBS and NPR and regular media outlets is ? They can't sell advertising. So instead they sell "Sponsorships". Do you know what the difference between ads and sponsorships is ? Nothing.

So why should I be taxed to support media outlets that don't align with my values ? Should we all be taxed to support MSNBC ?

This. There was a time when federal funding of PBS made sense but that was like 40 years ago.

More telethons plus grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and viewers just like you.
