Mastodon isn't Pantera, therefore there is no comparison to Death that can be made that is valid. Other than that I agree with you. Both Death and Pantera envisioned the true destination of metal ahead of time and no one has crested those high bars since then. Don't worry about what Killjoy Riff Co says about this one.

It's not that I don't like Mastodon, it's that Mastodon is not Death or Pantera, therefore there is no point in listening to it. I'll take your word for it that they are good but you already basically admitted they sound like early Death, which is cool, but it's not early Death so it's like you doing me a favor but the favor is buying me a non-alcoholic beer. :LOL:
