I find it odd so many of the BAD SLO-100's are for sale used literally new in the box.

To say the BAD SLO suck WOW the BAD SLO is all up dated such as the dept control which was a mod that Mike had to add on the old SLO, the effects loop was up dated for the better also dc heaters which made it less noisy and as for the Deyoung transformers,Deyoung doesn’t make transformers anymore. Mike had Heyboer make the transformers to Mikes spec just like the specs he gave Deyoung to make.I know players that sold the original SLO for the BAD SLO.They sold the old SLO for crazy money for all the hype of the old SLO because they knew if someone would pay crazy money for it, anyway the BAD SLO is amazing and updated. Mike Soldano is still involved with Soldano(BAD) and quality is always # 1 for Mike his name is on the amp.

It might be because it has a loose playing response. Not a lot of people are prepared for that when they buy it.

I played a ‘92 SLO next to a BAD version. They sound pretty much the same… with identical settings.. preferred the BAD… but with minor adjustments to the original, they sounded the same
Thank you Redb4Black!
Also in my experience no two amps sound exactly same for one reason or another.
My SLO from the early 2000's was built as Dual Overdrive mod from the factory (no clean channel, but two SLO high-gain overdrive channels instead). Even then both channels are appreciably different in how they sound and feel. I would fully expect a newer/updated version to sound somewhat different too, especially given certain archtectural and component changes. Hence was my question if somebody actually had a chance to play both. So thank you for sharing!

People need liquidity. Once they realized the SLO is not going to sound legendary at 1 on the master, they take advantage of the 45 day return policy to get $4,000+ back and reason that the SLO plugin sounds good enough at that level and a lower price point

just a couple mods, some NOS vintage tubes, maybe a transformer change and these things are ready to hang with a DSL. cant imagine why there are so many for sale, its really quite the mystery that cant be solved.

Spot on. I bought one used. The master is good but the amp needs to be cooking to sound best. It’s a lot of power for the small clubs I play.

one of the best things about buying new gear online is the generous return policies. people take advantage of it to "try and buy"; I hope these "tire kickers" don't ruin it for the rest of us who buy things we have a high probability of keeping. I've only returned things that were not as advertised, or damaged, even damaged I've kept a few things and they gave me money back.

For new gear that's returned because someone changed their mind or didn't like it, the dealers should charge higher restocking fees.

I agree. Aside from my opinion of a SLO, I really love how great sweetwater is with customer service. And I have never returned anything to them, but I appreciate the fact that I could if I needed to.

With the price of mid amps jumping to ≈3500, it is a useful tool. But taking advantage of something like that is disappointing behavior, especially since I feel a lot of people reach for an amp out of their price range and then get rid of it because of guilt, or actually needing the money the next week/month. If I reach, I just work more to pay for that.

I'll say new production tubes in these amps suck!

Now this is the correct answer!

Love the SLO!
I have avoided them for years as I thought I didn't like them based on some of the modelling stuff that I tried, which was my first mistake.
Got the X88-IR last year. It is my main unit now both recording and live. Just stellar tones from that unit. Bought the SLO Plus pedal for my rehearsal board. Love it as well. Exactly what I was looking for. With a simple IR out pedal, it is direct to my monitor and sounds amazing.

SLO-30 combo in snakeskin arriving today because I wanted a real tube amp as well but in a smaller package. It will no doubt be exactly what I was looking for as I tried one earlier this year and loved it. I got an amazing deal on a new one and grabbed it.

Most of the issues with any amp is user error and the second reason is:

However, we all hear things differently and thus, we have our opinions on these things. Some things we like, some we don't and that is a-ok!

Have played a few. Have always wanted one. My checkbook says that's not gonna happen...lol!

If you stand by the originals are best, you are implying Mike has sold out and is now a liar. Why would you want an original from such a person?

People here want a used amp made by a reportedly far worse person because his modded Marshall tones sound really good.

I wouldn´t be surprised if BAD already has sold more SLO100s than Mike ever did, so there are a lot more of them out there now. More readily available and a much higher profile in the market, that naturally leads to more people checking them out - and maybe returning them too.

And as always, the reputation of the SLO took a bit of a weird turn somewhere and some folks buy it looking for a modern metal amp, so that disconnect coupled with the high price tag might possibly lead to a bit higher number of returns, who knows.

I'd love to check out BAD's version. Of the three main changes (pedal friendly loop, DC heaters, trannies), I'm really curious to see how the output tranny behaves with the masters at 6-8. This where OG SLOs step on the gas.
