Actually found this band from this performance, so long ago. Love this period of the band. So fucking tight.

A fine example of what can be accomplished when one never gives up and sticks to a vision.

Still can't believe this is 22 years old. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I discovered them on that tour, in Paris. They were opening for Scarve, another great french technical death-metal band from that time (with Dirk Verbeuren on drums, who later played with Soilwork, Devin Townsend and Megadeth !!). To tell the truth, they blew Scarve away. So powerful. It immediately reminded of Sepultura on the Chaos AD tour. Same level of raw power, tightness and brutality with kinda tribal feel. Super impressive. I bought the CD on the spot at the end of the show, without even having ever heard of them before (normally never happens !).
The Link is a great album. Sadly, I think (for my own taste) they only went downhill after that. The later records are less and less interesting and original, even f*****g boring IMHO.

Never could get into these dudes, always found them boring. I did see them live a few times though and they did sound great

I've seen them live several times and each have been among the best sounding shows I've ever seen in my life
Yeah, I'd not been able to get into Gojira at first but somehow heard a recorded concert and then I got it. Now I love them.

Wow, they certainly were much more death metal-ish back then. For me they definitely have moments of greatness but it's peppered with too many "JUMP DA FUK UP" riffs.

Try to get into "The Link", it's worth the time. This one's not boring.

I have, I had their first album before that I was mildly into at the time, and then that one came out and it was just eh. I’ve gone back and checked everything out again after they were great live and blew up, just not my thing

I'll go through phases where I don't listen to metal much, if at all, with the exception of Gojira. They're always on the menu. They've lost me a bit since Magma, but some of the new stuff is good too. I'd be hard pressed to name a duo I'd rather hear playing off each other than Joe and Mario. They've been spot on every time I've seen them too.

Became a fan after I saw them at what I think was their first time in San Francisco, with Behemoth and Blowjob For A Cowboy.
