That was my experience playing a vh4 briefly at a music store. I prefer my herb but would love to spend more time on a vh4 at some point
It’s def a keeper . Crank channel 3 up and master and it’s special . This dude online was like Everone uses channel 4 for recording their main tone . I’m like bro channel 3 is used 90 percent of the time . My only complaint about vh4 is channel 4 is too compressed and not as punchy as 3

Cool but how would I know it’s actually your cat?

Your reply made me realize that “fatigue” was the wrong term. I’m not doing any heavy lifting with my ears. It’s just that as good as they can sound and feel I find that I lose interest/focus pretty quickly with fractal and neural amps (through the same IR and headphones) while a real amp just delivers at any setting.
Ear phones are the cause in my opinion - they’re for Walkman’s and Scholz rockmans.

Fact checking.

Hard to imagine anything punchier than the Herb! If I see a used VH4 I’m just going to buy it. I don’t care if it’s overkill. Diezels are just killer

It does punch more . But it’s not as a Rich . Both are worth keeping

Lol yeah it's a beast. I love it but there are times where I just want something toned down a bit 😂 It can get tiresome blasting that amp for extended periods of time. I've considered moving my QR on. The MGL covers the classic Marshall 800 tones pretty well for me.
This is all very helpful. I’ve been considering a QR. which diezels do you have and are they close enough to the QR character and tone? I already have the Dmoll and Herbert MK1

FINE I’ll buy the Two-Rock loop interface I guess.

Can the amp also do the more classic vowely Dumble sound or is it pretty exclusively in the plexi camp? I have good plexi tones covered, not 100% sure which Amplified Nation amp I would get. The Reza demo sounds good. Amp sounds pretty good here as well:

If you do end up going with this Amp (Ampliphonix and Gain), you may want to try some of the cheaper options for an effect loop buffer before pulling the trigger on the 2 Rock Effects Loop interface unit. For my personal situation, I have a boatload of amps that cover the Marshall plexi sound. The Ampliphonics and gain is very plexi like on the gain channel, but north of 1oclock on the gain knob it begins to round things off, getting a more chewy overdrive that for me starts to pull it into a more dumble-esque sound. In Reza's video, he never takes the gain higher than 1oclock either. So to answer your question, yes, I believe that the amp can certainly go into more vowel-esque Dumble Sounds on the gain side with higher setting of gain. I'm still new to playing with this amp, but I did do a gig a month ago with it and kept the gain at about noon and it nailed harder rock stuff in a fantastic way. When I needed to push the Amp even more into high-gain territory, I hit it up front with a Klon copy overdrive pedal, and it's sounded fantastic. Really takes overdrive petals very well!
Now the Ampliphonic (Clean) side of the amplifier is a whole Other beast entirely. For starters,, it's loud as shit! I can't get it above one and a half on the volume knob without getting concerned that my speakers may implode! The cleans are very rich and 3-D, and then there's the foot switchable boost for the clean channel which puts some hair and even more volume on your clean signal! The reverb on the Amp sounds killer on this channel; you can turn the reverb all the way up and it's still somewhat usable and not over drenched like some fender amps can get. Just shy of noon on the reverb dial gives you an amazingly lush and very 3 dimensional tone. Haven't tried it yet, but this channel with a good fuzz/overdrive/distortion pedal should be on point!
These Dumble style amps are growing on me and I may end up trying a few others like 2- rock, or maybe a used Bluto-tone or Welagen or something. The amplified nation A&G to me has one foot in the Dumble camp, and the other in the Marshall plexi camp. It's a great amp for a newbie like myself to explore some Dumble vibes while still being able to crunch out some Classic higher gain tones. An the feel under the fingers is really good. Yeah, I think they should have went with a tube buffered fx/loop on board,,maybe you can have them customize an amp with a tube buffered loop.
As far as gain goes, I was told that the A&G has the most gain of any amp they offer.
Keep me posted on which way you go 👍🏻

I have a Herbert MK3 and a Hagen. The VH4 would probably closer to a QR out of the "Big 3" Diezel heads. Even still, VH4 and QR are pretty dissimilar. One isn't better than the other imo. Just different. Diezel is probably more polarizing with their tone than Splawn.

I didn't take a picture of my current rig before I put it in storage. Well it's exactly like this picture but minus the cool matching Emperor cabs and replace them with two old beat up Peavey VTM/Butcher cabs.

Not my main rig but this one is so simple for a rack setup that i use it to this day. I mean you've got a Midi Octopus and simple foot controls to go from clean to high gain. It's an exact replica of Cantrell's touring rig from Dirt. The poweramp is solid state as well.

Both cabs are wired stereo so I can use the 4 cab switches to mix & match speakers between the two cabs.

Midi is still a WIP but planning to set up presets of Amp+Speakers so I can cycle through them instead of flipping a bunch of switches every time I change amps.

How do you like that Emperor cab? There's a 6x12 up for sale locally and I'm very tempted to try it out.

Aesthetically it's amazing.

Tonally it sounds great and has extra resonance. So it's awesome to make amps without a depth knob sound bigger (amazing with a Marshall). But if you want surgical tight you'd probably want something with less resonance so that you could dial it back in with your amp.

Not every model is "extended" for extra resonance so double check that. Regardless a 6x12 must be fucking massive sounding.

Agree with what Ners said. My two Emperor cabs were the taller (36" I believe) with a staggered speaker configuration. They looked great and sounded absolutely killer with my VTM.

I'm gonna have to move some stuff around to score that Emperor cab then. Weird, but sounds like it'll be sick.

Meanwhile, I'll post some of my (old) rigs

MusicomLab EFXMKVI Board.jpg

JP2C W/D/W Rig controlled by a Musicomlab EFX MK-VI board. JP2C runs straight out to a cab dry. JP2C loop output ran into the MPX1 stereo output to the Intellifex, stereo output into the Mesa 20/20 and that ran out to a Left and Right cab. Literally felt like I was swimming in tone. It also literally felt like I'd die every time I transported it. Easily weighed over 220lbs and the board was pretty heavy in it's case as well.

AxeFXIII and Quad Stereo Rig.jpeg

Attempt at downsizing/weight relieving. Stereo Axe-FX/Quad rig. I could run the Quad effects in an Axe-FX loop or the Axe-FX effects in a Quad loop with those two jumpers. OR I could run Quad one cab, Axe-FX another cab. This thing weighed around 150lbs. Not fun.

Now I run this with a single cab, swapped to the Powerstage 170 though because the 200 clips easily. Pretty much does everything I could possibly need. I have two Positive Grid FRFR cabs if I want to run W/DW and they only weigh like 28lbs each.
