Would be nice to /sell/trade gear @ working man's prices but er-ee-body round here thinks their $600 dollar Jackson is a priceless work of art.

I remember using layaway. The old "put down $50 so that they don't sell it to anyone else" trick. That's how I bought my first Tobias bass. I snagged it as soon as I saw it. People were standing there waiting for me to put it down.

I still have that bass, too. It's in shambles and needs put back together. It's a Toby Pro that was made in Japan just before Gibson bought Tobias and ruined the Toby Pro line. It has the Tobias neck profile, and not the Epiphone neck.

Honestly layaway is great and I'd buy using layaway or pay in full whenever I would buy gear at GC. It just made it easier for me to pay for stuff and get what I want.

I got not all but a good amount of gear at GC that way. Sam Ash still did it but they aren't around anymore and with GC just hiring kids from IKEA or Best Buy or wherever they get these new guys from that know zero about anything....... nvm how to work a pedal station or something as simple as cables......

I'd always lineup the final payment with a Holiday like Memorial/MLK/Veterans/Presidents Day to get a discount too and it would always work out. Plus as you said this way I would have my gear on the side before anyone else got it....... with that gone now.....

Last purchase I wanted to make at GC was for an Epiphone 59 Standard....... they didn't have layaway and the prices would always fluctuate...... at Zzounds they had a limited edition model for 200 bucks less than the MAP price at GC...... and I just had to make 1/6th of a payment....... and they send me the gear before paying for it 100% with 0% interest financing or credit check and a discount on top of it....... better than layaway and better than anything really in a physical store.

GC isn't just filled with terrible employees and people who work there, it's just not competitive in 2025 anymore on any level compared to almost anywhere else online and well if the employees suck, the service sucks, it's not competitive...... Others can shop at GC still but I know I won't be.

one of these days I'll throw a few Quid in your tip jar ....
I call that ducats in the bucket down here, lol. Lemme know if you ever make it down. Southern vacations are a good time, especially the BBQ around here. If you get a hotel and call the front desk to tellum you gotta leak in the sink they just tell you "go ahead".

I've got a uncle somewhere in Texas ...... but I haven't talked to him since well before my parents passed ...5 and 7 years ago ..

he might be gone now too .... not sure

plus ..... " all my exes live in Texas !!! "

IMO it's actually easy to sell used gear thanks to these other guys and their stupid used prices........

One puts a piece of kit below market value or in reality fair market value and it flys thanks to these other asshats and their stupid prices.

So as a seller I can't really complain :dunno:

GC is good for one thing still....... if you want to unload gear and get money quick......

Or honestly here on the forum or Reverb is better especially when you give a good price.

Once I sold a pretty much mint OCD V2.1 signed by Mike Fuller....... People were asking stupid money for theirs but I just sold mine for 175 with shipping included and no taxes with Paypal Friends and Fam, with original box and paper/document that came with it ...... I sold it in less than 24 hours to a fellow member at Strat Talk, he got a good price and I got to buy a new amp which was a Boss Katana Artist Mkll on sale for like 500 bucks........... I was happy, buyer was happy...... win win, dude loved the pedal too.

That's sort of how I use gear, I use it and once I don't like it anymore I let it go and get something else and use it for funds and not so much to flip or make money or pretend to flip to make money......... IMO gear is liquid...... but not as liquid as one thinks and well as said all the stupid prices people ask for gear is good by me. Its not a retirement fund exactly or you know an actual investment.........

It also just makes the prices I sell it at that much better relative to the stupid prices some ask for and great to sell fast, easy, quick and at a good deal for folks where they benefit and I benefit and it's a win win.

I guess some people forgot COVID is over and still want gouge their used gear and shit and party like its 2020....... fine by me and if your prudent/shrewd it should be by you too and only an advantage for sellers who sell at fair prices IMO :dunno:
