You're proving my point dude.Austrians own an estimated 30 firearms for every 100 people, making the country one of the most heavily armed civilian populations in Europe.
Machine guns and pump-action guns are banned, but revolvers, pistols and semi-automatic weapons are allowed with official authorisation, and rifles and shotguns with a firearms licence, a valid hunting licence or for members of shooting clubs.
Mass shootings, however, are rare. In 2020, four people were killed and 22 injured in a gun attack by a convicted jihadist in Vienna. In November 1997, a 36-year-old mechanic shot dead six people in the town of Mauterndorf before killing himself.
You're proving my point dude.
Guess what the most "properly" armed populations in Europe is ? The Czechs.
Of course nothing over there compares to here population wise. And that's guns and people. Here 30 guns per person is rookie numbers.
That's because you are only looking at a cherry picked portion of the data. First, take the population into account. Then look to see where the vast majority of the gun crimes and murders are committed and by who. Then consider what you are being told a "Mass shooting" is. Drive bys in STL and Chicago almost all qualify. Know why ? Because "Mass shooting" sounds scarier. They tell you guns are the number one killer of children. The problem with that is that it's only true if you call 19 year olds children. It's also not true if you are talking about white, Asian or hispanic children. So essentially it is the number one killer of 16 to 19 year old urban black males.Austria has some gun control, but still a fairly high number of guns and mass shootings are so rare there were only two others mentioned in the article. The US has a massive number of guns and an epidemic of gun violence. Draw your own conclusion from that. It seems clear to me.

Also Austrian gun law is draconian by comparison. Even the Czech gun laws are hideous by comparison.
It never ceases to amaze me when seemingly intelligent people argue that crime is caused by inanimate objects. Most simultaneously argue in favor of prison reform, no cash bail etc. There is no debate that the US has an epidemic of gun violence even when you take into account the population differences with other countries that are reasonably armed. That is a fact.
2022 Austria deaths from gun violence: 0.2 per 100k citizens.
2021 US deaths from gun violence: 4.31 per 100k citizens.
Once you take out the "scary" mass shooting words and look at just the data some things become clear. The US has vastly too many guns that are too easy to obtain by the wrong people who do bad things. It seems to me that reducing the number of guns available and making sure they only get in the hands of law abiding citizens is the only solution. That's an argument for both gun control AND gun ownership. I'm in favor of gun ownership. But we also have too many guns.

What do you think the consequences should be when someone is caught with a stolen gun or a felon is caught with a gun ?

It’s correlated to an overabundance of criminals and a lack of effective punitive consequences.Crime isn't caused by guns. It's correlated to an overabundance of them. And, to the uniquely violent nature of Americans.
Americans are worked to death, fucked by the system constantly and then prescribed drugs that dull their senses. Till all of this is corrected, nothing will change. Everyone is ready to fucking snap at all times. Me included, which is why I don't or will not ever own a gun.Crime isn't caused by guns. It's correlated to an overabundance of them. I repect your decision for knowing your limits and the ability to keep from putting yourself in that scenario. Hopefully you find some calmness in the future.Americans are worked to death, fucked by the system constantly and then prescribed drugs that dull their senses. Ding ding. Someone who has committed violent crimes and can't be trusted with a weapon shouldn't be back on the streets. It amazes me that someone who has served time for a violent felony is allowed out without decades long consequences. I am also amazed that someone who has committed a non-violent felony serves their time yet still suffers a loss of rights. It’s correlated to an overabundance of criminals and a lack of effective punitive consequences.
"Sippy Cup Logic"Gotta love it when the person with the most fucked up logic on the entire forum is passing judgement on who’s the most logical.
