Shall i give the SLO 100 another try?

So recently i went to the Musicstore unplanned and had the Chance to try out the Badlander 100, The Bogner Helios Eclipse, SLO-100 and the EVH 5150 III 50 Watt 6L6 through a Bogner 2x12 with a Heritage Guitar H-150 which had a Price Tag of 1899.- probably because it's a Showroom Modell, i assume. Later i found it it's normally going for 2.5k.
The Badlander pleasantly surprised me, sounds like a thicker EVH 5150, but tight and open, even with the Gain maxed it had nice pinch harmonics. Ok, i know, not all of you are into nice harmonics :D Out of the 2 i would pick the Badlander. But somehow i don't like Amps with built in USB-Ports and i'm also not a Fan of the fan. :D

The Eclipse was either not enough (in the hot mode iirc) or simply too much in the Eclipse mode. But the SLO sounded plain classy. Tight enough with standard and drop d tuning with the gain up to 7 i dialed it in like bass 7, mids 4, treble 4, presence 7, depth 8 and it was thick. I'd probably dial the Gain back to like 4 and boost it with my A Standard tuned ESP with EMG 81s.
I'm kinda tempted again...
So back to the question: Shall i give the SLO 100 another try?

Here's a little clip for you with the Lenz and the Ibanez 808 HW V2 (which hasn't been talked about and nobody seems to care) with a more modern sound (formerly known as scooped :D ) to listen to recorded on low volume, no eq, while you contemplate about this maybe life-changing question. :D
Seems like i ate a joke today.
Anyway :D
Bring them many answers.

LOVE my Badlander. The Two-Notes IR and internal load are a huge bonus to me. Load whatever IR you like. Records effortlessly. I use headphones at night plugged directly into the amp. Killer! If you are picking up fan noise, you would have the amp volume off basically.

Also love SLO. One bad mofo.

Get both, is the only reasonable choice.

The SLO works for death-metal !!! At least it worked well enough for me (and still works although I play less death-metal than before) . Pinch harmonics galore, Chuck Shuldiner style, if that's your thing (I'm also a Zakk fan to tell the truth).

What you boost it with?

I used no boost for a long time but sometimes a TC Electronic preamp, the old one. Sometimes the green Maxon OD808. Then I've been using a CAJ Smart Buffer with the side gain maxed for the last 10 years. That way the gain is only around 3 or 4 on the lead channel depending on the guitar and the noise is minimized. It also slightly tightens the tone.

The cycle is never-ending. Of course you should.. it is road worth revisiting. I have been down the SLO road at least 10 times over the past 30 years.

Maybe alter you settings a bit... Keep gain at 6 or below. back the treble of to about 4. mids at 6 or 7, depth no higher than about 4. Crank the presence all the way which will be super shrill, then back it off just enough to nix the razor blade effect. If you keep the bass lower you can blend in a little more of depth knob, without creating to much woof. But I would run the bass on on about 6 then roll in just a smidge of the depth knob only if needed. Crunch channel. same settings but crank the gain.

Crunch channel boosted is better than Od channel for most applications for me anyway.
