Gear plateau

There were only a couple of things I really wanted and got them. I’ve been spending more time writing and recording, goal is to release 1 new song each month. So far, 3 months in, so good.

Board/Admin Request- could somebody get Fretburner on the line and have him shoot me a DM? I cannot generate any yet- maybe he can reach out to me.

Thanks!!!! Happy Independence Day to my USA peeps here!

Two things on my gear list: a new EBMM Majesty 6, and a new Yamaha Montage M8x workstation keyboard.

I have an older Majesty, and a Roland Fantom EX, so neither are urgent or immediate need.

Now I also want a new Hyabusa, had one years ago; there are a few new 2025 models around, waiting to see what the 2026 models will be. Already have my hardtail chopper, now I want a super sport and I'll have all the riding I enjoy covered.
Doesn't sound like a Plateau to me. 😅

Awesome man! Yeah, im kinda there. I will say this. I used to buy things without putting a ton of research in and then sell to get the next thing and the next, etc.

Years ago I started getting gear that didnt replace anything but was another tool. Like having one good Strat, an acoustic, main Les Paul, etc. Then it was like what works best for my playing needs amp wise? Lighter, simple, etc.

Now when I get something, I have a goal in mind like it will be easier to take to gigs, etc. I try to collect now without selling (if I can help it).

Right now I want a Marshall Studio 900, Orange Dual Baby and a Quad Cortex. I decided I'm going to pass on the Friedman Jose. We'll see what I end up with.

I literally had a full stack fall on me because I'm out of room. Luckily it was a marshall with the wheels that sit in the tracks, so it didn't completely fall. It braced itself against the wall with me under it jacking with the hvac. I'm so done...

Hope you're okay. That sounds like no fun.

I’m kind of there right now.

I’m out of useable space, to the point that I won’t buy anything without having something in mind to sell.

IMHO the only amp that will scratch that itch of an old Randall RG100ES is an old Randall RG100ES that is still working in good condition, but they will need new electrolytic filter caps and other electrolytics replaced by now. If you gotta have solid state I would say for something that's new the closest I've heard to my old Randall RG100ES are those new little Dime mini 40 watt amps judging by the clips out there.

My 1988 RG100ES was still going strong when I sold it a couple of years ago and it was still quiet and functioning fine but it was due for electrolytics for sure.

When I miss my Randall these days I just run my VFE Standout in to a Revv G-8 in to my Splawn modded Marshall and that get's me 95% of what my Randall got me and it makes me pretty happy but it still misses that solid state grind somewhat, it's still good but not exactly like the grind of the Randall so I totally get you wanting that S/S grind.:2thumbsup:

My RG100ES is still going strong. Filter caps are still good.

That said, I still consider it to be one of the best solid state amps ever made. It pisses on most tube amps too. 🤣

I enjoyed all the Randall's that I owned but my 1988 RG100ES was the best. My 1989 wasn't as great sounding as my 1988. I've always heard 1985-1988 were the best years for some reason. As much as I loved them for me all my Marshall's are my number ones!

Skip the other Stuff and get the Friedman Jose :D

Mine is from 87. I certainly prefer Marshall’s more, but there is something about the RG I just can’t deny. I turned down $1k for mine during Covid. Glad I did 🤔

Yep...I've plateau'd about 20-30 times...LOL!
He's not talking about your workout routine.

Wait, that's planks, not plateaus.

OP, I'm there. I've been steady flipping and learning about gear since 2008. Been thru LOTS of amps, cabs, pedals and, guitars.

I've settled on my favs, after all those years. Everything I want is covered, and have 2-3x what I need to be happy.

Guitars: 3 forever Gibsons (LP, SG, Explorer), Suhr Modern mahogany body/maple top, Fender CS Tele with P90s, 2 Squier HSS, new Orsmby H1, 4 different type acoustics, couple basses.
I could let a Squier, the Ormsby and 2 acoustics go, and maaaybe a Gibson (but not gonna).

Amps:
Poppop's old Fender Dual Showman and matching 2x15 cab. They hardly ever get used. Would sell, but Dad didn't want me to.
SLO, Ground Zero Friedman SS, Wizard MC50 6L, PRS Archon, Vox Pathfinder, Spark mini. Could be happy with either the SS or SLO and the Spark Mini.

Cabs:
Bogner OS2x12, Soldano 4x12 with V30/Scumback BM75LD mix, JMP era Marshall 4x12 with GBs, 1x12 open back with G12h30. Just the Marshall or Bogner would be fine.

Pedals: too much to type, but I could sell 2/3rds and be fine.

As much as I like shopping, trying new stuff, its rare to find anything that's better for me than what I already have.

Honestly, I should clean house, except for the keepers, and put the gear craze behind me. But it's really difficult to cut good stuff loose.

Just got an Arturia Minifreak. Would love a workstation, but $$$. The MF is great fun for not a lot of $. Cheap inspiration, with frequent updates. Hoping it's the gift that keeps on giving.

I've had many bikes: FZ1, Night Train, Goldwing, to name a few. Kept the Harley 20 years. Down to just one in the garage after getting a Triumph Tiger. I can thrash it, commute, ride 2up for a week, camp off it in the mountains, hit the dirt roads. It's the best of all worlds for me. Love working on it without having to peel off tupperware. Only negative is the $ for maintenance/repair. Not the fastest or best handling in the twisties, but that's a good thing. Keeps me out of the danger zone.
