Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

Another update 7/10/25. I finally got my Axe I/O One Interface Controller program to open and after it opened I plugged in my Axe One interface unit and then plugged my guitar in and it showed a signal was present on the levels but I could not adjust the buffer speed. So I selected 44Khz and still nothing showed up in the buffer speed window.

I then opened my IK MM Product manager and then opened my ToneX SE and it opened fine and show my 78/79 package fine but the Interface did not connect to my ToneX SE at all, and the input output levels on the lower left and lower right of the Tone X SE display on the Tone X SE showed no signal.

I had to unplug my Interface and close my Axe I/O One controller software program and then plug my interface in again by itself and only then did it connect to my ToneX SE software and show a signal again to make things playable BUT the lowest BUFFER speed shown is still 256 which I would llike to lower to improve the feel immediacy while playing.

I have sent IK MM Support a question to see what can be done to get this Interface Controller software program to load correctly and connect to my TonexSE so I can lower the buffer speed below 256.

Just ordered a mini ToneX one. I was impressed by the free standalone software and stumble on a Prime deal tonite.

How is it going with the EVH pack of settings?
The 78/79 tones are great but I'm struggling to get the AXE I/O interface controller program to load and connect to my ToneX SE so I can lower the buffer speed to lessen the digital latency issues and improve the immediacy feel while playing.

Other than that the 78/79 tones are great.:2thumbsup:

@harddriver that lil' ToneX One pedal sounds great! Had only a few minutes with it but the Marshall 800 and Orange 50 presets are quite nice into my cheap studio monitors. Very impressive what they can put into such a small package. I can't wait for the weekend to put some time into it.

Great time to be musicians!

I am very tempted to buy that EVH pack.

It's great that the output doubles as a headphone jack. Super cool portable practice device. I wanted a Lion pedal for couch jamming, but was shocked that they didn't have the foresight to put in a headphone jack.

I have a lot more experience with the 78/79 pack now. What I have found as I put it into recordings and A/B/C/D it against other recording methods is that it still sounds a little distant compared to other guitar recording methods. If I bring a song up and haven't listened to anything else and put the Tonex plug in on a direct recorded guitar and bring up my favorites in the 78/79 pack, it sounds pretty good. The second I bring in a real amp with an IR, or a real amp miked up, or even the same direct recorded guitar part using a different guitar amp sim, the Tonex falls to dead last place. It is the exact same lack of being "in your face" that I found with the Kemper, the Fractal FM3, the Tonex pedal when it first came out and every other direct recording solution I have tried. And there have been many.

As for practicing through the Tonex through my studio monitors? It is great for that.

i trust you brother.
how’s the percussive feel ala cranked plexi into a 4x12?

i spent a few hours last night roaming around tonenet searching for custom user presets to load into my pedal. higher gain stuff i found (friedman bogner) is better than low gain stuff i sampled imo.
i loaded 2 of the best dirty bassman presets i could find and compared to the real thing it’s 5-6 on a 10 scale imo.
none of the factory cab IRs sound right to me either.

this guy is making me want the 78/79 pack again!

I'm surprised he got the 78/79 package to sound so good going into the front end of that Yamaha THR10 because the captures were already made with 4x12's with mic'd speakers. I don't think you can bypass the cabs on the 78/79 package.

Whatever he did is sounded pretty good for a live amp setup and not just using it through studio monitors.

As of yesterday I still have not heard from IK support on how to get my Axe I/O one controller program booted up and connected to my ToneX SE.

I haven't tried it for anything other than direct recording and playing it through my monitors. I mean, it's pretty good for that. I'm just using the software and using it as a plug in for recording and using it stand alone through my studio monitors for practicing. It's miles better than say the Positive Grid Spark for practicing.

To me, it's way better than the Universal Audio Lion '68 Plexi though I have heard some killer clips of that pedal too. Of course always in the hands of someone who is a good engineer also.

i was tripping about that too.
so far my tonex experience is pretty lackluster.

the sacred mid gain tones every digi product seems to struggle with kinda blows on tonex too🤣

i have one pretty impressive clean sound, one impressive dumble lead sound, and a couple of friedman and bogner hi gainers that are decent.

looking for one good vox, one good bassman-jtm 45 and ONE vh old school sound not 50🤣

i’ve got the Lion and to me it behaves more like an amp when you adjust the controls, but very one trick pony versus the universe of sounds in tonex. i’ve got it set up for a clean on one button and a dirty on the other. simple!

Made a capture using my amp and cabinet. Cabinet is dual mic’d on one speaker. Used a 57 and VR1. Made the capture using the CAPTURE box with mics plugged into my Apogee interface. Tried to run Tonex in Logic again with no luck. Tried Amplitube and it would open but could not figure out how to import the capture from Tonex to it. Eneded up loading the capture into the Tonex One and plugged it into the interface. Seems dumb to have to do that, or I cannot figure it out.
Anyway did a test recording ising the capture and then playing thru the rig into Logic. Same exact settings and no added eqing. One is panned left and other is right. I did have to balance the levels a bit between left and right and also the mic mix.

@Greazygeo sounds very good! Is it something you could share? Curious to try it.
Thanks, first attempt doing the amp and cab. Need to spend some more time with levels and mic balancing. Sounds seem close between the two I think.

What do you mean by “share”?
