Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

EDIT: do this first!: try uninstalling the interface via IK progam manager or windows. Then use the device manager check below and if it still shows up after a restart use the right click > uninstall method from there before doing a re-install. otherwise skip the device manager stuff.

Also, ik may have a sequence for when you install vs plug in the interface. After you uninstall be sure to unplug the interface and then follow their procedure.

Hit the start button and type in device manager to open it. Open sound and usb devices then take a screenshot using the snipping tool and post it up. You'll likely want to right click it and uninstall then restart your computer and install again. Its a good idea to click the down arrows to see if its under another subcategory. If it has an '!' the driver likely has a problem.

After you install it, restart again then go to system > sound mixer and make sure that the input and output device are both your interface. After that you want to verify you can open your interface's application and change settings. If you don't have it set as your input / output device and try to change sound settings through windows it often won't let you open the application.

You should be IKMM support manager! Thanks for the suggestions! I will try it out when I get a some time again with it.

You would think that the issues I am having would be a simple fix quite routine fix. I just don't understand why IKMM seems to make it harder than it should be, it's their software.

All this is why I punted the Tonex and IK to the curb and replaced them with a Friedman IR-D.

I hear ya but I have to admit the tones of the 78/79 package sound damn good. If I didn't have so many operational issues they would have a really really good product here. I was curious and the price point did not deter me from jumping in, I'm here now so I'm trying the make the best of it.

I'm just glad I didn't have a bigger investment into the system then I would be pretty pissed off about now.

There is not really an input level issue, the issue is that many people are dumb and dont understand how to set the volumes on their gear.

Turn up your interface until just under red clipping, and then turn the input level of the ToneX software up until just under red. That is the same process for ANY interface and digital plugin. That is the proper level to have your guitar at. If someone made a Tone Model at a wonky capture level then move on to another creator because they didn't know what they were doing.

If you have the pedal, then set the input level in the pedal the same as the input level in the software to have the pedal sound the same as the software.

Good to know.. that's how I always setup my interface and software. I like Amplitube 5 better than Tonex. I've downloaded some really great presets for A5 and have yet to get one on Tonex that sounds as good.. even after going through 100s.

finally got the Brown Sound 78/79 Signature Collection through sweetwater so i could get tech support. they’re still selling it for $79 but i noticed the price went up to $99 direct from IK.

they provided me with the serial number via email which i registered into IKM product manager and it confirmed i successfully registered.

but the first wrinkle is that it doesn’t show up as a separate software product in the IKMPM list of purchases/downloads on the home screen,
nor in my computer’s tonex downloads folder. this was counterintuitive to what the Sweetwater product download instructions described.

but, it shows up in the Collections tab under Tonex Max software i previously installed when setting up my pedal the first time, along with a Bonus Collection 3 i received with the pedal:

but one weird glitch is in the Tonex app,
although all of the 50 78/79 collection presets show up as something i have access to, only some of the presets will load while some don’t:

however in the Tonex Editor/Librarian app,
i can see all 50 presets in the library on the right side of the screen, under the Tone Model tab,

and i can drag any preset over to load into my pedal:

so bottom line is it worked! sounds pretty cool through headphones so far, but ear fatigue kicks in quickly. after an hour everything starts sounding the same.


i did receive $8 jam points into my IKMPM account for the 78/79 purchase and have a total of $49 points available,
but when i tried to apply them to the $79 pre-order for the 80/81 collection, it wouldn’t let me…?

i think the 78/79 collection has the cab baked into the presets but i believe the next 80/81 and 82/84 collections will allow you to run it without the cabs and use your own power/cab instead.

Gaustad said that there were going to be some raw captures but that remains to be seen at this point.
I'm really curious about the G12-65 cabs in the new packs. High gain Marshall into a JCM800 cab is my jam.

You don't have to import into Amplitube. Any Tone Models that are in your ToneX library are automatically in your library in ToneX within Amplitube.

HOWEVER, one really dumb thing that I hate about the system, is you cannot use a ToneX preset inside of ToneX inside of Amplitube. Your base tone model will be there, but the actual preset with your EQ and effects tweaks cannot be used there. You just need to recreate the preset with the base tone model, or just use the effects inside of Amplitube instead. You dont need the pedal for anything unless you want to take the sound with you outside of the computer.

I would say find your Tone Model within ToneX within Amplitube. Add your other effects to the chain in Amplitube, and then save the Amplitube preset. Then you will have your Tone Model with the Amplitube effects you chose that you can use on a track in your DAW.

Opening Amplitube on it’s own, my models are showing up. When opening it up inside Logic, nothing but a couple factory models and a bunch of locked for purcahase ones. Clicking the Tonex button there is nothing at all in it.
Only thing I have figured out is to load model into pedal, plug guitar into pedal, then pedal to interface and then into a channel in logic.

Yeah, the collections always show up under the main product.

Usually after I install something new ToneX will pop up a box that says something like "There are new GUI skins available. Would you like to download in the background"? and then it will download the images needed. Yours should do that. You might try to click the "Restore Purchases" button on the account tab to force it to do that. You are only getting the error because you did not download the images to go with the tone models yet.

I think the Jam Points only allow for a maximum of 15%, so if you calculate 15% of your total purchase price and type that in, it should allow that amount. I think I got $10 off the 78/79 pack or something when I used mine.

It is best to find DI capture for that, which the 78/79 pack doesn't have.

That sounds like a Logic problem, not an Amplitube problem. I would try Reaper and see if you have that issue. I have never tried Logic, and dont like Macs in general, as they always seem to have weird issues PCs dont have.

You also might try to click the "Restore Purchases" button on the Account tab in Amplitube, inside of Logic. Maybe that will force your purchases to show up. You could also reinstall the plugin version, and make sure Logic is pointed to the correct folder where the plugin is installed.

That's the only reason I haven't gotten super pissed off...........The 78/79 package sounds great.....If I could only get my interface.controller program working and lower my buffer speed....

I don't even want to know what you guys have to go through to get this shit to communicate to the little floor pedals and recording with it.

I am wondering if it is related to the strength of people's internet connections, or if they have firewalls and such that is blocking things. I have strong internet and I have never had any of the issues mentioned here. I even moved mine across 3 computers and never had these issues.

I rarely have any issues with mac and recording / video stuff. But when I do it is something like this. It may be a logic / M1 thing. Appreciate all the help. Will do some more looking around.

Yes, just have to be able to turn off the cab model first. Create your sound in the computer software, then drag it into the pedal and turn off the cab model.

i did the restore purchase thing and i had the sweetwater guy do a screenshare and he tried everything too.

although life has forced my hand over and over again to delve into fighting with a computer, this experience has once again reminded me how much i detest merging that soul eating life wasting with my musical experiences.

i wish to remain a stone dumb Cro-Magnon in the rig simplicity department where the zenith of my technological agility hinges on being able to flip a power and stand by switch on prior to making enjoyable music.

but i’m stubborn enough to plug away at this thing when my patience refills.
