Momentary kill switch

I am finally on board with this idea.

What is the best kill switch for my passive pickups?
I will be wiring from humbucker to killswitch to output with no volume or tone, so do they have a 500 k, or should I wire a cap to ground?
 
I have no idea but chiming in to say that I bought a used Charvel that someone installed a big button for a kill switch and damn is that thing too much fun. I'm sure I'm the most annoying motherfucker around whenever I play that guitar because I cannot stop myself from pushing that button.
 
Damn it, my finger is on the buy button on amazon...i remember @NowYou'rePlayingWithPower saying something about these..
 
I've got one on my tele but no idea what part it is or how it's wired.

Fun little things. I don't use it as much as I thought I might, but will eventually put them in my other guitars purely because of how simple they are.
 
Why not just turn your neck volume off and use your pickup selector? You will use this gimmick very rarely, wiring it up seems unnecessary.

Number one...i dont have a neck pickup. As far as the gimmick, i think it will be a fun gimmick every once in a while.

I also think it would be convenient to hold in to silence. Since i have a volume pedal, the volume knob on my guitar is just a mute knob essentially. To be able to go from silence to full volume that quickly will also be pretty cool.

I had considered just doing a non momentary so that it would be silence or on, but then I would really lose the gimmick side of it which is a pretty interesting effect

I have one in the Jackson Skeleton Balls guitar built for Steve Stevens, I never use it. YMMV.
 
kill switches are easy to do ..... I bought a few from TesiSwitch ..... had a Arcade style on my superstrat for a while .... eventually took it off because because I put it in the normal volume spot on a strat and kept hitting it with my palm ....

The guitar i am installing it on is a single humbucker (no middle or neck). I am wanting to put it in the volume pot hole thus deleting the volume knob.

So it will go humbucker to kill switch to output. I know how to wire the hots together and grounds togethher, but I am assuming there will be no load, so should i solder a cap to ground to roll off some of the high end?

If you get one from Tesi ..... it comes with a really simple wiring diagram ...

off the top of my head I couldn't tell you how it was wired ... I would have to look at the diagram again myself ...

The diagrams all show wired with a volume pot. I guess i will try my own ideas

ohhhhhhhhhhh ....... you want a latching switch then right ? ..... to basically turn the guitar on or off ...

i just reread the posts ...

so you want no knobs and a killswitch ??
 
I use tesi switches. You need a ground. As the switch is wired from hot lug on jack to ground. So wire a ground from your bridge post or trem claw to one wire or terminal of the switch, then the other terminal to the tip lug.of your jack.

I also use the Tesi switches. Super nice and easy as can be to connect. It just needs to hit ground and hot, as mentioned above.
