NPD! Griffin Analog Treble Booster

I realized something when I was swapping tubes for fun and messing with my amp:

I already have added mids into my Fender Blackface style amp due to it being a Rivera and having a knob for it, which I have up quite a bit.

When you remove those mids, the amp really needs/uses the extra mids and push from the Treble Booster.

If I set the amp to crunch with noon settings, it can sound lackluster - I generally do not set it this way as such - but with the Treble Booster, it makes it start really pushing! Can take a strat and add that body that is missing for lead work at times.

I run my amp with the mids and everything so accessible, and cranked, that I quickly forget about the number of amps that are missing that 'certain' midrange sound that you cannot dial in, and, voila, this adds those mids.

If you were playing a scooped twin reverb or the like, this thing would be an absolute neccessity.

That's about the consensus worst use scenario for a Treble Booster imaginable. Normally you're looking at warm and thick mid forward amps like cranked Plexis, Ampeg NMV amps like the V4/VT22, Laney's, Oranges/Matamps, Hiwatts, and the like where Treble Boosters really shine. It trims the mud, and brings back the cut and sparkle while upping the aggression. Or run on the Iommi setting gives up a fat coarse as gravel glassy crunchy pseudo fuzz with singing sustain.

I use a Keeley Java into either a Hiwatt Custom 100, a Matamp GT150, or an Ampeg VT22 head. I could definitely see them working with some of the Tweed and Brown Fenders, and maybe a BF Bassman.

That said fuckit, it's about what works for you. It could sound badass in the right context.

Yeah? This one has 3 modes, which add different frequencies. 1 of the modes, probably the standard, I would totally agree with you 100%.

I should have been more thorough.

2 other modes add mids to a varying degree.

One of the modes adds quite a bit of midrange, which I like to add into my blackface cleans to thicken it up in that section since it is all bass/treble.

The added midrange thickness makes the guitar scream.

The distortion mode on my Rivera is more of a British flavor. A mix, but i think it leans that way for sure, the 'normal' mode works best here, as the added midrange cn be a bit much, as I already goose my amp.

You have the OG Treble Booster (Brian May), the Mid Boost (Rory Gallagher), and the Full Range Boost (Tony Iommi) types which are the most common versions people tend to want. My Java has the same type switch, and also a tone control which I generally leave cranked anyways for maximum Treble Booster raunch.

Other versions add an OD, or simple preamp after the the Treble Booster section for the exact purpose of getting them to pair better with high head room scooped amps ala Fender Black Face, and Silver Face type amps, or if they cannot run their NMV amps loud enough to over drive naturally.
 
stacking with them has always been my favorite ..... you put a treble booster in front of some certain fuzzes and Oh boy !!

Earlier I said this pedal does not really jive with my main setup except for one mode, maybe 2 if you count OD channel, which is different flavor really. I leave it in a Fender Blackface clean, but it also has a tweed mode I should check out with it and I bet it would work better.

My little Vox and little Brown-face ish pignose will really enjoy this pedal.
