That’s because big numbers impress you.

I’m sure there is a lot of waste just like any organization, but it’s tough to shake a stick without hitting something nasa didn’t play a role in develop

Yes, I agree, like leaving two astronauts to die in space. Very impressive.

Or like the time in the early nineties when they couldn't figure out why tiles were exploding off the nose of the space shuttle.

The guy that lived in the garage behind my shop in Hackensack NJ had to explain to the rocket scientists that it wasn't the heat causing them to come off.

Really impressive.

Next you are going to tell me NY Transit is doing an amazing job.

Pretty much any time nasa does anything they have to invent the stuff to do it. Let that sink in the best to your ability

Traveling where exactly?

I’m not saying we SHOULD have kept the budget the same, but IF we did keep the same percentage going to nasa as we did when we were the first land on the moon, we would most certainly still be the leading nation in space.

Space isn’t just the moon and shit, it’s the satellites that society would be lost without, and the US loses hold on that future every year. Y’all are worried about TikTok, just wait until China controls everything we communicate through

the farthest star detectable is 23.5 billion LYs away
Does anyone want to tell me in all that distance theres nothing else out there with some sort of a heartbeat

Voyager 1 left in 1977 traveling at 13K miles an hour. as of this year it's only 1 LD away

it would take 225 million yrs to walk one LY. if you left when the dinosaurs went extinct you'd only be 25% there

once youre there you'd have to walk another 750 million years to get to our closest star after the sun

It’s funny how statistics work. As of now we are the only planet we know that has life on it, and that means it’s very possible we are in fact the only planet with life in it.
However if we find signs of life on a second planet, especially one in our own solar system, odds are there are millions more out there.

Complex life becomes a little more complicated and advanced societies even more so. Something fun to think about is oxygen as a limiting factor. There may be life out there that does not need oxygen to survive , but as far as far as we know, we 100% need oxygen for fire.
And without fire, how far can a species really advance?

i agree it may not be life as we know it. but life of some sort is out there
could be giant 30 foot roaches with a horses head and a fishes tail that can breathe whatever gas is there

In most excited for the Europa Clipper mission. There is a good chance there is both a shit load of liquid water and thermal vents there which is a great scenario for life

I really don't know. I don't know why this country hasn't progressed in 50 years. I don't know why our infrastructure is crumbling. I don't know why our average lifespan is diminishing. I don't know why we pay so much for energy. Maybe you have some ideas.

And where should we travel to? We should travel anywhere instead of never leaving our safe little liberal environment.

just a fraction spent on space would give everyone free healthcare
