I'm not convinced a civil war even could happen now. We're idealistically divided, but the American Civil War owes a lot of its origins to geographic divisions as well as idealistic ones. Maybe in a generation or two, we'll see more geographic division as people migrate toward areas of their particular political beliefs.

Plus, as @Geo so succinctly pointed out, a lot of Americans tend to be lazy fucks who can't be bothered to leave the couch, let alone the home.
