I think DOGE should have recommended a 40% cut in Federal workers across the board, every agency - except ICE / Homeland Security. Then, wait until verified American citizens start complaining about Federal government services taking longer than usual. My guess is no one would notice.

For example, it will still take an hour+ for someone to answer the phone at Social Security.

If you have a passport, you should always renew outside of a federal budget negotiation period to avoid additional delays. IME it's worth paying extra for expedited processing.
