I haven't gotten out my casio and my 4 track and written a black metal track in a decade or so

I ran into a former band member at my bands gig friday, and he gave me the challenge of writing a black metal tune

This is the rough idea I have, anyone who listens to those types of bands give it a listen and tell me what you think!

Conversely, if you don't listen to those types of bands, no offense, but I don't care about your criticisms of the drums or guitar tone :hys: I wouldn't give you advice on how to sound like Gilmore, alright?

Can I contribute lyrics? I'll start with the song title:

Thou'lt Shall Not Speak with Split Tongue to Whom Is The Bearer of Unholy Eternal Acquiesce

You're thinking of Bal-Sagoth or whatever their name is

Fucking A, I dig it!

Now thanks to the thread title and this, I'm going to listen to Valkyrie off The Voice Of Steel album. Nokturnal Mortum has some epic songs

NEChrist is easily in my mount rushmore of metal albums (of ANY style) all time, what a killer band

Badass!

I'd never heard them before and always looking for new stuff to listen to so cool, thanks for the heads-up!

Man I got black metal recommendations for days. I got turned onto a bunch of badass shit back in the day and have a massive record collection of this stuff

There were a ton of bands that didn't get a lot of exposure that were amazing during the 2nd and third wave

Fucking A! There's so much great music out there in the underground (for lack of a better word) that when I hear people say how everything sucks now, yeah, maybe for the mainstream but there's just so much good stuff most have never heard of, and there's several decades of that shit. I'm 52 now and still stumbling on shit I'm like "how the hell did I miss this?!!!"

Dude me too. I probably have gotten into multiple genres multiple times because I discover great new bands that I missed - and black metal is one of those. I hear Windir or Ondskapt of Paysage D'Hiver then I'm on a new rabbit hole getting into shit again.
