Bogner 412 with 1987 g12t75s

I recently got a wheat grill straight bogner 412 that the owner loaded with non vented white label 1987 g12t 75s. I previously had tried a marshall cab that i returned to guitar center with those same speakers but I think there was something wrong with either the cab or wiring as it honestly sounded like shit regardless of volume or amp lol. This one sounds way better especially at high volumes but I have a small question. Do these speakers usually sound fizzy and a bit boxy at low volumes and need to be pushed? It sounds great at high volumes but low it sounds alot smaller and there's this constant fizz on the top end that doesn't go away even when moving away from the cab a good bit and standing. I've been trying to figure a way to get it to sound good at low volumes but no matter how much eq I do there's always that fizz and when I do get rid of it with eq the whole cab sounds muffled.

I'd also love some advice on some speakers that sound great at low volumes for a 212 but maybe that should be a different thread.

Fizzy and boxy are the exact words for G75T sound. And even worst when they are newer one. There are very few amps they work with. Sold 'em and put some GB/V30/Creamback in are enjoy the excellent sounding cab.

And for speakers which works with lower volume...I have success with G12 65, Alnico Cream, Redbacks and also Scumback, which I prefer before Celestions and have them in my Bogner 412.

I noticed if I cut 16 and 14k out on an eq the fizz sound goes away but shouldnt most guitar speakers not be very active in those high of frequencies?

I have reported this thread for no pictures of the cab
ill send a couple pictures and I'll take the back off too tomorrow. Not sure why they're showing sideways when I attach them though.

I tried redbacks in my 212 recently but they also have some fizz though its not as high frequency sounding as the g12ts but it goes away at medium volumes. Maybe i just need to break them in.

Im starting to wonder if somethings up with the speakers as 14 and 16k seems way too high a frequency for a guitar speaker to be noticable like this

Yeah. The breakin for redbacks is very short. But before they settle, they can be a bit grating in high end.

I may actually load up the bogner cab with all redbacks sometime and see how that sounds do you think a 412 with those would be too woofy? I also wasnt sure if you were serious about reporting the thread lol.

I tried to record a clip of me turning off and on the eq cutting out the 14k with a narrow band but it barely comes through on the phone mic compared to the room. Can speaker damage cause this super high fizz im hearing?

I took the back off and took pictures of the wiring and speakers and the batting too. Not sure if anything looks out of place besides it all being soldered instead of push on tabs. All pictures are showing sideways again for some reason I guess rigtalk doesn't like my phone pictures lol.

I run all redbacks in my mills. It sounds glorious. But at first with new ones, it is a little grating. When you break them in, which is quick, it is the most balanced speaker I have found. Massive low mids. If you have a dark amp, it may not be the way. But a balanced to bright amp is perfect.

The reporting thing was in jest. I have only reported myself. I really dont know why there is a report button. We are all grown men here.

Rode K2?

@Racerxrated sorry to ping you man but since you've owned quite a few old g12t75s do you know if this really high fizz is normal? After messing with it more I found the fizz is like 12k to 14k which makes me believe something really isnt right for it be that noticeable.

Yep. I have a NOS 6DJ8 preamp valve in there
Rad. I have one too and use an Amperex Bugle Boy 6922! There's a clip you can get for it too so you don't have to use the shock mount. Works great for miking up cabs.

Tell me how you mic the cab. Because I have been wholly unsuccessful in getting a good sound. If I get too close, I clip the mic, and if I am far away enough to mic, it sounds boxy and distant. Any tips would be appreciated. Thing is dynamite for vocals and acoustics though
