Now that I pissed off a bunch of people about Ozzy, let's do Iron Maiden.

Interesting that you mention both Stained Class (one of my absolute fave Priest albums) and Glenn improving. My feeling is that he (and maybe KK too, although I always felt KK was the lesser lead player...more brawling, noodling, instead of thought-out, well-phrased leads) improved a few times...

Now that I pissed off a bunch of people about Ozzy, let's do Iron Maiden.

Agreed. PoM has overall a higher number of quality songs throughout than Powerslave. But...production wise, style-wise, finesse-wise (of where the band was in their 'arc'), I'd recon Powerslave was them at their peak. And yes, I prefer Clive Burr to Nicko, just like I will die defending Les...

Mesa Mark VII IIC vs JP2C High Gain

That's what I heard as well (on good headphones). 2nd clip reminded me more of AJFA aggression, while the 1st clip sounded a tad bigger/fuller and nicer to my ears.

Buying a new guitar in 2025?

So, I was off 1 year on both my new guitar purchases, with almost the same guitar the 1st time like yours! Got my (still made in Japan) Ibanez S540FM in '97 and in 2009 a Charvel So-Cal Pro Mod. Like yours, that Ibanez has been my main guitar for a very long time...and aside from some...

the best tone of the 90s

Released in '98. Saw 'em front row on Dynamo Open Air '98 as well. Engl Savage + Les Paul = epic tone.

People who only claim the first 2-3 albums of said band are the best....

There are definitely some bands that peaked after the first 2 or 3: Lääz Rockit. I mean...Know Your Enemy (album #4) is abso-fuckin-lutely PEAK! Or Death... I mean, Leprosy is fun and all...but it ain't no Human or Symbolic (#4 and #6) or...Kreator. Extreme Aggression = #4. Maybe Coma of Souls...

Judas Priest covers Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" - New video release

Yeah, looks like Andy Sneap was featured as well...apparently with long hair again, but Richie and Glen were more often shown.

Judas Priest covers Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" - New video release

Hmm, I assume you never heard the Priest track 'The Rage' then. :p Btw, I didn't know the bastard love child of Joey DeMaio and Ann Coulter could drum. Sure sounds cool tho'! 🤘 #howcanimakethisaboutme incoming 😉: I played the song with my band, supporting James Rivera and I did the 'air...

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

In front of a clean amp. If you run it into a Marshall, best make sure it's set clean. Of course, a little break-up (just a smidge...think clean-ish Knopfler when he digs in, but for sure less than the Brothers in Arms intro) helps in making everything come alive, but yeah, definitely DON'T run...

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

Look, I won't argue that a Bad Monkey in a Fender amp has its place, tone-wise, but surely -with your experience 😊 - putting a Rat into some clean amp hardly sounds the same to you as playing a nice modded/hotrodded Marshall, right? And this is where a good amp-like pedal delivers. I myself am...

    Judas Priest 1984

Well, since you used 'Yikes', I felt such an exclamation was more in place for that LA upholstery probing/tearing, that's all. 😉

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

That's mostly my point too...Together with the fact that you can't replace the tone of the BE-OD Deluxe by just grabbing two not-ideal low and medium drive pedals. Even if you pick really good ones (unlike ahum.. the Rat and the TS9)... I mean, sure, a Boss OD-3 and a Zoom HL-01 Hyper Lead...

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

I haven't tried the Suhr Eclipse, but one thing that makes the BE-OD Deluxe more interesting over that one, are the additional Presence and Tight controls, per channel! When I run a BE-OD Deluxe into some Fender amps, I have to up the mids more, dial back the bass a lot, to get it to where I...

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

@phillybhatesme did you also change the internal trim pots' position to lower the gain of Channel 1? I feel this helps it even more, and there's still plenty of gain left for classic heavy metal tones on that channel, but then the lower part of the gain knob's travel can do really nice crunch...

    Judas Priest 1984

Somehow, 'Rod' should be part of the name as well. And his Turbo Lover co-star Dick 'Stache... at the time, probably fond of little Traci L, also went up a different path. \:D/

Better dual drive than BE-OD Deluxe?

Judging from your comment, you've never played the BE-OD Deluxe. @griff10672 please back me up on this, as a fellow pedal builder. I've built and modded various pedals myself, including TS-ones and built a Thermionic Deluxe, WHILE owning an original Friedman BE-OD Deluxe. A Rat is a gritty...

    Judas Priest 1984

"And?" nothing, Mr. Strong-comeback. :geek: Clearly you and Techdeth were talking about two very different things; one being a venue's upholstery being torn, the other one being Jani Lane's 'upholstery' possibly being torn. The 2nd one took place in LA, not MSG, NY.

    Judas Priest 1984

Only if Madison Square Garden is located on the LA sunset strip. :p The deal about the '84 MSG show was that the fans went crazy and tore out most of the seats, leading to Judas Priest being banned there. Infamous? Sure. Typical rock 'n roll mid 80's debouchery? You bet. Worthy of a...

Uhmm...aaaand? It's not like @Matt300ZXT was suggesting getting raped by a famous dude killed him on the spot, now did he? :cautious: @Matt300ZXT I also saw that video; it was some DJ/metal vlogger, right? He did all the investigation, checking tour dates, and when Warrant moved from FL to CA...

Why do people prefer 4 string bass over a 5 string one?

I'm originally a guitar player, but I dabble in bass guitar as well and own two; a Tokai Hard Puncher '81 (great Fender P-copy from Japan) and a Cort Artisan NA-4 (active with Bartolini MKI pickups). Both 4 strings, but very different in sound, function, character. I have 0 interest in a...
