Yeah, it's not super hot. It's also kinda dry. I guess that's what they were aiming for. It is pretty cool if you find the right guitar/amp combination for it. It's particularly good in my baritone for maintining clarity with the low tuning. Higher up, it's pretty Lamb of God-sounding. Kinda dry...
The Dominion is great. To me, it's kinda sorta like an EMG 81 and a Duncan Distortion had a baby, except that baby has very DiMarzio-like vocal mids. There's also a hint of JB in the mix, IMO (the output level is practically identical to a JB, IME). It's probably closer to a Breed than it is to...
I used to be an EMG guy, but then I got a Duncan Distortion because one of my guitars at that time was really dull, and I had read that the Distortion was really bright.
I tried it, and it immediately became one of my favorite pickups. It made me swap all my EMG's out.
Nowadays I'm running...
They're not too V30-ish to my ears. Rather, I'd say they're sorta like a modern, cleaner Greenback with a little T-75 thrown in.
I don't find them dark either. It could be that they're only avaialable in 8 ohms and 8 ohms are normally darker than 16 ohm versions of the same speakers. That, and...
Just curious: What is it that people don't like about run-of-the-mill Single Rectifiers? They seem kind of unpopular. Are they voiced very different from a Dual? If so, how?
IMO, the closer, the better. I find all humbuckers sound fuller and fatter, yet with a more promient pick attack the closer you get them. I usually set my bridge pickup as close to the strings as I can just before it starts making plinky noises from the strings hitting the poles (I am...
My PRS SE sounds better, and I could set the action lower out of the box than my Ibanez Prestige. It's a fantastic guitar, not just for the money. If only it didn't have the baseball bat neck with the round fretboard, lol.
I have bought a bunch of Ruby 12AX7C5's, C7's, and CZ's graded HG and HG+, and all of them with the exception of the CZ's have been microphonic in V1 to some extent. I guess I must be gotten unlucky.
I like the tone and the lack of noise/microphony of the Russian Mullard CV4004.
I payed like 130-140 dollars for a pair of Relic 30's (relabeled British-made Vintage 30 MF's) a couple of months ago.
Aren't all V30's like that? Or at least they all have the 444 bass cone.
Either way, Vintage 30MF's are quite a bit darker than standard Chinese Vintage 30's, but they are...
Around the lower frets, it's more or less the same dimensions. Higher up the fretboard, it's wider and thinner. Not sure if the D-carve is more or less the same. It's also multi-piece construction and has a volute.
I have a Krank Rev Jr. and a Randall RD1H.
The Krank sounds absolutely killer, but it needs some volume to sound its best. It's definitely not duplex-at-night-friendly. The Randall sounds good at low volumes, but it doesn't have the full-size-amp-like open airy top-end or deep thumping low-end...
What was special about the Bloody Murder that set it apart from other TS's? Was it just that it was rack-mountable?
And yeah, I agree about boost pedals, lol. I've had a bunch too. The Duncan 805 is my current favorite. I've wanted to try the Maxon VOP-9 and OD-820 for a while, though.
The old Randall G2 and G3's were great. Albeit, a bit bassy, but great otherwise.
The Marshall 8100 is a classic for metal. Sames as the old Randall RG100. The Ampeg VH140 too. And the Peavey Supreme!
