Generation Terrorists is still the benchmark in guitar tone for me.
Great album when they were full of piss & vinegar.
The Ritchie years albums are the best imo, despite the Holy Bible being the most bleak sounding thing I've ever heard.
James Dean Bradfield, HIGHLY underrated.
FWIW
I have a MK 50ii & I've never found it overly dark.
What are the preamp tubes in it?
If it has JJ's, Tungsols might help.
Speakers? They're designed around V30's.
I run mine with them occasionally but for the most part with M75 Scumbacks.
I do have the resonance quite low, about 9...
I believe I have your old 50w Cali.
Absolutely agree, just superb.
Mostly use it for 80's type metal which it excels at.

Running thru two Scumback loaded 4x12's, WET reverb, El Cap & Matrix poweramp in a wet/dry setup.
Sounds phenomenal.
A true gent & tonesmith that deserves all the props you get

I agree to there being horses for courses.
I found the Scums great for upper mid focused amps like Marshall's.
Whereas the V30's compliment a...
Tore the V30's out of a Bogner 2x12, waaay to harsh.
Replaced them with M75 Scums, hands down the single biggest improvement in tone.
Scums introduced a warmer chewier mid tone that didn't fatigue the ears yet still have plenty of cut with other guitarists.
Primarily use Marshally amps but...
