Actually, I did a side-by-side comparison of the 2x12 combos of both of those amps at the Arlington Heights GC last weekend for about an hour, and I have to say that I much preferred the Alchemist over the Renegade (though I did like the Renegade more this time than the last time I tried one...
And that's the reason why I really wish there had been one in a closed amp-room. I'm sure it would be a different beast cranked, but at the above-apartment level I was playing, I couldn't get it to do what I wanted... then again, I'm used to the Guytron's always-cranked EL84 power section, so I...
I got a chance to muck about with one last weekend for a decent amount of time, and here are my thoughts... I tried it out with a Les Paul Standard.
The amp will do a lot of different tones, there is no doubt about that. I thought the EL34->6L6 knob would be cooler than it actually was, which...
Jimmy Page (I find my soloing style is closest to his)
David Gilmour (songwriting and affinity for bends)
Mikael Akerfeldt (songwriting)
Steve Vai (general whammy chaos :D)
John Petrucci (alternate picking)
Adam Jones (Rhythm)
Those are the ones that come to mind immediately. Most people...
I wouldn't worry about ordering from the UK. Both my orders didn't take more than 7 days to arrive in my mailbox. And the prices will probably be cheaper than a US dealer, not to mention you won't be restricted to what they have in stock. Tim is a class act, and I have no issues at all giving...
HN3 does not have a lot of high mids that I noticed when I had it in my G&L. If you want high mids in the Anderson line, the H2+, H3+, HN3+ are your ticket. The + = more of a mid focus. The HN3 is a very balanced pickup with a smooth top end and a beefy low-mid thing going on.
Can't comment...
What I want to know is if they wrote that shit themselves, or if every half-assed metalcore producer in the world got together and had a raging circle-jerk. Because that's what you'd get, methinks...
I can confirm this. The Ruby EL34B-STR has a much more glassy, hi-fi kind of top end. I swapped them out for some Winged C EL34s, which are more "traditional" sounding for EL34s IMHO. The Ruby actually reminds me of a 6L6 with more of a midrange focus and less scoop. Not sure how I feel...
Nice dude! It's funny, but I can tell it's you just by that tone (and the crazy playing, too). It's got this unique glassy presence/transparency thing going on. Very hi-fi.
Above suggestions of course, +1 on the HD if you want JB+ level of output.
If you want really open overwound PAF style with a glassy top end (and a shitload of presence), try a VHII. I'm really digging mine. Not high-output at all, but it is very tight and great for high gain. Really...
There are TONS of clips on Youtube:

Based on all the positive feedback, and the prices, I don't think you can go wrong. I've been thinking of a T-Wreck/Matchless clone just for a change of pace.
