Best all in 1 head

I'm sure this question has been asked but here it is again. I have an XTC, I love the amp, the only weak point of the amp is the heavy low end metal tones. I'm just not getting what I want out of it and since I cant run in stereo due to lack of funds what are your opinions on the best all around amp? I have not heard a Herbert in person if anyone in the Portland area would'nt mind letting me hear your Herbert I would love to hear it. I'm really thinking of an Axe FX but I dont want to lose the tube tone and feel. Thanks you for any opinions and I'm sure with everyones opinions I should be able to narrow it down to 200 amps!!

There is no such thing. They all have weak spots.

All Diezel weak spot is the mid-range does not cut in a band mix. If there is a other guitar in the band you well not be heard and well be fighting the bass player for that part of the spectrum.

The Herbert's do have a ton of bass and have a lot of thrust. .

The Heartbreaker does not do the modern low end thing at all.

The Roadking has a harsh high end. Cuts much better than Diezel but not as good as the classic Marshall sound.

I have never seen a Meathead / Fortin or got a direct answer from anyone when asking about the low end of the Fortin amps. A few said it does not have as much bass as the other modern amps.

Well a Roadster will get low, the cleans are great, and channel two is cool as well.


I will ask Mike for a specfic low end demo of the Meathead in November, I really cant remember that aspect

I had a Roadster when they 1st came out, it did have the low end but not much warmth and a little harsh (Recto).

What about a RM100 and then gill it with the modules to get the tones you want. There are tons of standard and modded modules. The Egnater Mod100 has 3 modules with 2 channels each. Just a thought.

I did not think the Egnater did the modern low end thing all that great either.

+1 on the Axe-FX Ultra and lord knows I have tried every high end tube amp 3x.

It just is not the same as a tube amp .... but is very very consistent.

VHT .... the bottom on all of them drops of around 100 hertz .... just does nnot have that thump.

THD .... great for the vintage voices. But does not do the modern thing.

Mesa ....

Dual Rectifiers .... does get loose in the bottom, does not cut in the upper midrange as well as some others. All the newer ones are too harsh in the high end for me.

Mark Series .... does not really do that crunch thing like a marshall or have the hair. A bit too compressed for a lot of things.

Stiletto .... does not have the low end.

The Uber has the same problems as the Dual Rectifier.

This is just what I was thinking. You can only use the single channel mods, but very versatile and won't break the bank.

This is just a silly suggestion, but why not run a graphic EQ in your FX loop for metal tones?

My XTC shit all over my roadster... roadster is long gone, XTC is here to stay.

Wouldn't the Axe into a tube power amp give him what he's after I'd suggest a VHT/Fryette 2/50/2. Suhr PT100 - seems pretty versatile, not sure about the metal tones though?
