My Metalhead modded JCM 800 has 3 gain controls, the original preamp volume then two added gain pots from the mod. The preamp volume (gain 1) seems to effect the character of the gain, while the 2 additional pots just add gain to what you already have dialed in. The two added controls don't...
That's me! I wish I had played something a little more composed instead of random chugging but it gets the point across   .
The amp totally crushes! It's aggressive, clear and tight but still has some warmth that keeps it from sounding too sterile. It has a great feel too, easy to...
A friend of mine has a Skyhammer. I've played it a few times, it's definitely on the loose side. It's a cool amp and has it's own thing going on...very thick sounding with a lot of gain on tap.
This has been on my to-do list for quite some time, glad to see some feedback about it. My music room is rectangular with 4 bare walls and sounds terrible. Huge difference (for the good) when I use my rig anywhere but there.
        I guess I need to log on here more often!
I wasn't quite sure what to expect because I bought the amp off Reverb without hearing it. I was stoked when I plugged into it and low and behold, it totally nailed that early FF tone.
I can't wait to...
I used to use them when I first started playing, they were all my local music store carried. Once I began trying other brands the Boomers fell out of favor for me.
I've been stuck on regular D'Addario XLs for a number of years now.
I don't have a huge collection but I'm pretty satisfied with my current setup and my GAS focus is moving back toward guitars. That being said, there are still a ton of amps I'd like to get my hands on just because   .
I'd attend an ampfest in a heartbeat if I saw one reasonably close by. I have to drive about 2 hours to find a music store that carries higher quality gear and even then it's still mostly mainstream run-of-the-mill stuff.
I've been wondering about this thing myself, seems like it would be great for a pedalboard based fly-in rig.
I would probably go with a single channel Marshall and some sort of distortion pedal if I was doing black metal but I imagine a 5150/6505 would be alright too. You want lots of treble...
I haven't listened to any clips of it yet nor am I much of a Misha/Periphery fan but I have to hand it to them, it looks like a lot of thought went into that design and feature set. There's a lot going on but it's incredibly practical.
Huge fan of those things! I have an SS-140C that was my go to metal amp for years, it's hard to find anything much better for old school death/thrash tones.
