VHT 2/50/2 vs 2/90/2 for my Axe FX?

I wouldn't think of the 2/50/2 as a 50 watt personally - it's an absolute beast! It's obscenely loud and will give you some nice power amp colouration at much lower volume than the 2/90/2. I use a 2/50/2 and I couldn't be happier, while my friend who has a 2/90/2 wishes he had got the same

Anyone try out the Bareknuckle Aftermath set yet?

Yeah, I think it's definitely emerging as an alternative to the Painkiller. The comparison would be to imagine a Painkiller with less in the upper midrange, instead a broader, fatter mid voicing. Then smooth the top end a tad and remove some low end. It has a similarly "dry" character, but I...

Anyone try out the Bareknuckle Aftermath set yet?

It's a great pickup! Incredibly tight and defined, with an extremely aggressive midrange voicing and smooth top end for a ceramic. The lean low end means it stacks up really well if you're quad-tracking (or more). There are better models in the range if you want a really versatile pickup, but if...

Opinions on Bare Knuckle Holy Diver pickup.

As said, the Holy Diver is mainly a pickup for guys with bright guitars wanting more fatness in the lower midrange and low end. It does have a killer vocal lead tone though. Check out the Crawler for a fat, classic LP sound with plenty of power, or the Cold Sweat for an aggressive but clear and...

What are some metal pickups that are not super output??

I concur with the4thlast1, the BKP Rebel Yell is particularly great for metal - lean low end that stays very tight, snarly upper-mid voicing coupled with the smooth top end you expect from an Alnico magnet. With the scatterwinding, coil offset and ~14.5kΩ DC it's extremely clear and open. I use...

Proof (if proof were needed) of why BKP rocks - NPD!

I've had a set of Cold Sweats in my Blackmachine B2 for about a year and a half now, and they have done me very well indeed. Recently, I've been playing around a lot with my other BKP-equipped guitars, and I started falling in love with the slightly lower output alnico pickups Tim makes. I...

posted a review of the Red Bear Big Jazzer pick

I've put in about 40 hours of play time on my Red Bear pick, a lot of which has been aggressive metal work. There is no sign of any wear on the pick at all, it's crazy. $20 is a lot for a pick, but considering the great tone/feel and lifespan, it's more than worth it for me.

    Axe-FX: Killswitch Engage "My Curse"

I auditioned the truncated versions that are designed for the axe-fx in my DAW, then transferred the ones I liked over. The room reflections are very cool, but not strictly necessary to get a good usable tone. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out when I use the truncated versions.

Andy Timmons 'Deliver Us' tone attempt w/Axe-FX

Thanks for the comments guys, I didn't see that this had been bumped! Greg, yep it's the same me! I agree with your thoughts on this clip, but this was done a good few months ago, I'm more adept with the axe-fx now. I reckon I could get a suitably realistic top end from it if I tried again :)

    Axe-FX: Killswitch Engage "My Curse"

Many thanks guys! :) Yeah I'm using the latest firmware now, the big factor that opened it up for me was getting the Red Wire cabinet impulses. They have totally reinvigorated my belief in the Axe-FX, adding the final touch of realism that was missing in the stock cabs. Highly recommended!

NGD: Blackmachine B2 Flamed Koa Top/Brazillian Fretboard (56

Yeah, it sounds unlike anything else. The tone is both as bright as it can be without being uncomfortable, and as full an deep as it can be without getting flubby... so perfectly voiced..

Ah dude, still glad it made it out to you without any adverse effects :) Having got to look after this guitar for an evening I can vouch for the fact that it is just unbelievable. sebby: the body is 40yr old mahogany.

Yeah, you'd think that would nail it but there's still something missing. I have hope for the Uber and VH4 models though.

    Axe-FX: Killswitch Engage "My Curse"

Wicked, thanks guys! Personally, I feel this tone is slightly too "5150-y" for the KsE sound, a bit too snarly in the upper mids and not rounded enough in the low end. I may try with the Uberschall, Recto or VH4 models next, or even the SLO. Cheers for the feedback :)

    Axe-FX: Killswitch Engage "My Curse"

Hey guys, I thought I'd have a go at recreating this awesome metal tone with my Axe-FX, since I bought a Red Wire impulse pack today. I found this great backing online, tweaked around a bit, and here's what I got: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/KsE%20-% ... edWire.mp3 It's not dead on, but...
