You mentioned a black shadow speaker...you sure you didn't buy a rectoverb 25 combo? If so it's el84 only as far as the power section goes.

There seems to be a lot of snake oil when it comes to rectifier revisions, but that seems high for a pre 500 to me.

Love these guys! Saw them twice, once when they did just covers and then again in Vegas when they started writing their own stuff. First two albums were great, third was a little weak but will still pick up the fourth! Satchel is a shred machine!

Mesa does the same thing with their rectoverb 25 combo. Its strange as a speaker difference can had a massive impact on the overall tone of the amp. All my Mesa cabs have V30s which I really like. I'd really be curious as to why they do the speaker changes with their smaller combos.

From the reviews and questions posted, doesn't look like they are truly isolated power supplies.

Sure it can. Weak mounting brackets and a heavy transformer are still under the effects of gravity, regardless of packaging.
