+1. Whether or not you have a tone knob, you will still have the high-end rolling off when turning down the volume on the guitar. But if you don't ever turn the volume down then the treble bypass won't do anything.
Changing the pots to lower values is the right approach if you are trying to...
Great information! I've been using the circuit posted below. It's a .001uF capacitor in parallel with a 150K resistor. On that link above he also concludes that this is a good compromise, using the 150K resistor instead of his original value in the Duncan configuration. I haven't tried any other...
I'm a big fan of treble bleeds. Can't stand how the tone darkens otherwise when rolling back the volume. I've only tried one circuit but will try to dig it up and post I here. It's probably one of the above. Looked like the Duncan but the values may have been different.
Where is the LP filter today? On the speaker output only, line output only, etc? I compared the line level output to a standalone DI box and it looks like there is no LPF on it. Maybe it's on the speaker output only?
The pad is a good idea. It is touchy when the amp connected into it is...
Might depend on where you live and play. My voltage swings pretty widely throughout the day from as low as 114V to the mid 120s. It also drops a bit when several large appliances are on. For tube amps this sounds similar to changing your bias setting throughout the day. So sometimes it sounds...
I'd go with 11's or 12's on 25.5 scale for that tuning. But get a thicker string for the low string. Drop A# is C standard with the low C dropped to A#. I increase the gauge by 1 for every full step down. C is 2 full steps down from E.
If you like the tension of 9's in E standard get 11's for...
When cables fail it usually happens at the solder connection to the jack. Take the cheap approach if you liked the cable. Cut the cable just before the existing jacks, and solder new ones on. Good to go!
I can't believe how bad these demo videos are for this amp. The guitar tone is poor on both, and this latest one definitely hits the wrong genre of music. At this point I'd rather hear a guy playing riffs from Master of Puppets in his living room, recorded with an iPhone.
That Empress pedal looks nice! Otherwise if you need a rack I recommend the Rolls. I compared it in the same sitting with a Rane parametric EQ and it was every bit as good.
I have a Rolls RPQ160 that I use in the loop and it works really well. One that looks great is the Empress ParaEQ. The Rolls is a full rack unit and the Empress is a pedal so they may not fit the bill on the size you are looking for.
James's voice sounds good, and his energy is still great. But those guitar tones are terrible. Flat and dimensionless. Kirk's lead tone on Nothing Else Matters is especially pitiful. I want to believe in AxeFX but this doesn't help.
For your list, the Redeye 3D and a Fryette Power Station together nail everything. The Redeye will do guitar DI and feed a re-amp signal back into an amp. But I don't think it will handle splicing off a signal from the amp's speaker output because it doesn't have any level reduction built in...
Another one to look at is the Dimarzio D Activator X. Your guitar wood looks to be pretty bright and this pickup tames that nicely. I put it in a bright guitar hoping for a more full tone and it has delivered. That said, I haven't tried several of the pickups others mentioned in this thread.
It's a great feeling to finally figure it out! If you will be doing a lot of soldering, spend the money and get the Weller WD1002 Kit. It is phenomenal and worth every penny! I ran into this kit when visiting a customer for work and was amazed at how well I was soldering with it. So I ordered...
