Do you bias your amps or take them to a tech

Always bias amps myself, used to use shunt/multi-purpose voltmeter method, then went with the Weber Bias-Rite.

Only amp I ever needed to take to a tech was one of my Rev2's which kept blowing tubes; for whatever reason, that particular amp had extremely high pV even for an Uberschall. So it was either bring down the pV with a circuit mod, or get bottles that could take it. EHX bottles could take it.

And just as a side note, the EHX 6CA7 is a killer EL34 type tube for any amp (love 'em!!), and their 6550 were the bottle that ended up in the Rev2 with Frankenstein level pV.

Guitar setup is also DIY for me, unless it's a bigger change ie: removing EMG actives, going to passives, with push/pull split coil yada yada...then it's simply a matter of time management vs cost analysis and I take it to my guy.

I run KT77’s cathode bias at 30 watts each at idle with different value cathode resistors to make them about 10ma apart if they are matched. Peculiar, I know. Had individual external bias before.

If bias is off, so is tone. I believe in autonomous dominion over biasing.
