Exposing the wood to sudden change of temperature. As they stated 3-5 days in a delivery truck. In the winter, assuming it will be sitting overnight in below freezing temperatures. Then opening the box (guitar case is more appropriate) in sunny so cal where its 75 degrees.

It definitely could warp the wood.

Some people swear by this. Personally I don't wait. While I havent been in this situation more than a few times I've never had any issues. Im sure others have because it is a topic.

With that said, good luck on them to prove when someone opened a package. That's pretty much impossible but in the event something bad happened, with a policy like this that I've never seen these guys may be sticklers and give you a hard time.

Edit: I think I would be more prone to following the rules if it were an acoustic or something extremely expensive. Even just not having to deal with returns or issues is probably worth waiting a day.

I never follow those stickers. I’ve done it with plenty of nitro covered Historic Les Pauls. Zero issues.

I certainly recommend this on Charvel and the type with oil based finishes on the neck. I had a guitar ship from humid Florida to cold Texas in January with low humidity. The neck was jacked for about a week. Took it to a luthier and subsequently reached out to the maker with notes from my luthier. A few days later in my room with 45-50% controlled humidity it literally self corrected. If your guitar neck is poly, that’s less likely or with Gibson’s plasticized nitro ;) it may not be an issue

On the way back from luthier school in AZ to NY I was driving through a blizzard. Acoustic was in a hard case in a mini u-haul trailer. Took it into the hotel and opened it pretty soon after. Caused a few finish cracks. Didn't damage or warp the wood but caused those cracks in the nitro. Idk if 24 hours is totally necessary, maybe 12 but ?‍♂️.

A thin nitro finish can shatter immediately if the temperature fluctuation is too extreme

I was told by reliable sources that as soon as the case reaches room temperature crack that puppy open...

I can see that If it's a solid wood nitro acoustic, I would DEFINITELY wait. I could wait an extra day for that.

An electric, I never have before and never had a problem, but 24 hours of wait worth is not having a problem to me. Never totally thought about it tbh. But IF something were to happen, I would regret it. As far as voiding the warranty, that's bullshit IMO.

But 24 hours is to me worth avoiding a headache. TBH in the future I will reconsider.
