They'll do Metallica all day long yeah. Slap an EQ in the loop and that goes doubly so.

My 50 watt 5150 III is the best and cheapest amp I've ever owned. EQ in the loop and a boost up front.

Lambchoppers gets Metallica tones several years later. EVH 5150 III is hard to dial in 80s thrash tones on the blue and red channels because it has that midrange bark that is inherent in the amp.

You hear him hitting the tones you want at the end of the video.

The easiest way to get versatility out of this amp is to use the green channel with a pedal. You will hit Metallica tones with no problem that way. Try a JCM800 type pedal in the front. I wish after years of using this amp that I had found the right distortion pedal green channel configuration. I have the 6L6 version, not the EL34 version so found it harder to get there but I got there.

buckethead was using these when i saw him and he had all the best tones ever from clean to mean. these amps are a modern classic
He uses the green channel for his very big pedal setup. I think I saw one using the blue channel but he mostly uses the cleans and then adds his own flavors to it.

He was definitely on the blue channel when I saw him, I remember noticing and thinking this is why guys are in love with the blue channel. He didn’t have a very big pedal board either from what I could see, he had a small rack with a midiverb I think it was. I’ve seen videos of him using all different kinds of rigs though

I like this guy's channel. It has me rethinking what's possible with a single amp. Also made me want a dsl20.

Someone got him a Gary Holt cameo and he was over the moon with it. I'm so jaded I don't think I could care less for any cameo vid. I hope I can get that kind of enthusiasm back

I saw Sevendust years ago and they were using 5150-III stacks. Absolutely brutal!
