Which you prefer overall & why.
I'm gassin hard for a SLO, but it's the most expensive & I've got a few potential deals on the other 2 choices.

A Marshall 1959 turned up halfway works for Angus.

I've owned 2 101Bs and currently the SLO. The SLO is much closer to the sound you are after... although I wouldn't say it nails it. The SLO is brighter, tighter, with a more cutting upper mid bite... the 101B is dark, spongier, smoother, and just way more laid back and voiced in the lower mids, which gives the overall darker voicing. Not really a fan of the RockerVerb, so no comment there.

Oh... and the Plexi mode on the 101B, sounds nothing like the real deal. I've also owned several late '60s SLPs and early '70s metal panels, and the only similarity to the 101B is the name "plexi". ;)

You want AC/DC tone in a new amp? Look at Wizard.

No, not new, & cannot afford
& the volume required would destroy my compound

Don't know why someone would want to play AC/DC with a 4K Bogner or Soldano, or am i missing something?

If you couldn't get AC/DC outta those amps, check yourself.

I've had about four XTC's, same amount of Ubers....probably 8+ SLO's. The XTC's are versitile and sound good in the bedroom but get a little lost in a band mix and are a wee bit "loose" feeling. The SLO just cuts through the mix and has a more "immediate" attack and holds together better a higher volumes! I prefer mods/options which make the SLO pretty versitile as well.

Why would one spend this much money on an amp for AC/DC tones? There are a 100 amps out there that can do this no problem for 1/4 of the price

I must have missed something, I can't see where you specified AC/DC tone! Anyhow, for AC/DC the SLO for sure.

SLO - is cool, it's kinda 1 trick pony due to the single tone stack, but definitely has a great sound. It just sounds right for hard rock. You won't even notice how good it is unless there is an other amp nearby for comparison. On the downside the fx loop is a nightmare don't even bother to use it unless it's modded properly. Overpriced.
XTC - good clean but nothing spectacular like an OD100, blue channel is amazing, red is kinda too smooth and compressed, me no likey.
Rockerverb - It sounds great alone, but simply disappears in the mix when the band kicks in. Tried a bunch of them, Thunderverbs, small and big rockerverbs, TH30 all the same.

I would recommend to try the EVH 5150 III. Fairly cheap used, considering the 3 above.Clean channel is ok, nothing special, but turning up the gain past noon, it's instant AC/DC. Blue channel is a mix of the SLO lead and the XTC blue, that channel just kills. From plexi to modded JCM800. Red channel is über gain territory, don't even bother to turn the gain above noon. Works nice for leads. Scooping the mids and turning up the presence, transforms it to one of the most brutal metal amps. Quite picky on cabs, sounds best with it's own cabinet.

I used to also think that the 5153 was a substitute, BUT I owned one for a year and a half and in brief, it doesn't compare to the XTC or SLO.

The SLO is still one of the best lead amps I've heard

Which Rockerverb 50 are you considering? There is the MK1 with 6V6's and the MK2 with EL34's. If it is the mk1, let me know as I used to own one...

If you want an amp that does ACDC and MUCH more, but for a good price... get an H&K Triamp Mk I with EL34s.

I had a Mk I and channel 1A was the best, spankiest cleans I've ever had (I've had a blackface Twin, Shiva, and XTC Classic for comparison).

Channel 1B with the gain maxed was plexi. Channel 2A just NAILED ACDC tones. And Channel 3B was beautiful liquid lead gain. I wish I still had that amp and may have to pickup another. Was a HEAVY mofo though!
