The SLO is still one of the best lead amps I've heard

Except it hasn't stopped the GAS. I don't think anything will.

SLO - is cool, it's kinda 1 trick pony due to the single tone stack, but definitely has a great sound. It just sounds right for hard rock. You won't even notice how good it is unless there is an other amp nearby for comparison. On the downside the fx loop is a nightmare don't even bother to use it unless it's modded properly. Overpriced.
XTC - good clean but nothing spectacular like an OD100, blue channel is amazing, red is kinda too smooth and compressed, me no likey.
Rockerverb - It sounds great alone, but simply disappears in the mix when the band kicks in. Tried a bunch of them, Thunderverbs, small and big rockerverbs, TH30 all the same.

I would recommend to try the EVH 5150 III. Fairly cheap used, considering the 3 above.Clean channel is ok, nothing special, but turning up the gain past noon, it's instant AC/DC. Blue channel is a mix of the SLO lead and the XTC blue, that channel just kills. From plexi to modded JCM800. Red channel is über gain territory, don't even bother to turn the gain above noon. Works nice for leads. Scooping the mids and turning up the presence, transforms it to one of the most brutal metal amps. Quite picky on cabs, sounds best with it's own cabinet.

everyone hears stuff differently but I have never heard an Orange get lost in the mix period. Actually that is one of the reasons I like them so much is how unique and cutting the sound is. Different strokes for different folks though.

If you can't get an XTC or Rockerverb to cut, you need check how you're EQ'ed...more mids and presence... another mistake a lot of people make is to crank the gain and wonder why they can't be heard, especially as you turn up...for Angus tone, it's more of a poweramp distortion, where these 3 rely on preamp more. I'd just pick up a good Marshall and keep the gain back...his sound is just gritty and rather dry (unsaturated).

With my Rockerverb 50 mk1, it was all the speakers I used as far as how it cut through the mix. If I used my cab with a CL80, the clean was great, but I got buried in the mix. If I used my cab with V30, cut through the mix fine, but cleans suffered. Comparing that to a Vox AC30CC1, I used later with the same band. The Vox had no trouble cutting through the mix, in fact it cut so much that it annoyed the other guitars.
