I let this video play as i was browsing other sites so i only listened to it, there's not much difference to me.

To say, "There is no more than $X amount of dollars in a product therefore it's a rip off" is stupid. Regardless of what the cost of the parts are, there is overhead, time, sweat, and money involved in making any product. No one, Motorola, Klon, or anyone else, are making things for the fun of it.

When Klon was still making pedals I contacted Bill a few times about getting one. Even back then they sold for a premium despite him still making them and he would let you know how insane he thought it all was. I think the wait time was only like a month, too. Never pulled the trigger for one reason or another. I wish I had.

These things aren't going to get cheaper. Bill is working on a new design, so these will only increase in price.

Best thread ever :D

So who has used one of these to drive the price up?

So are these Klon pedals equivalent to Dumble amps? I must admit I didnt hear much difference vs the bad monkey

ive built a few klon klones out of the best parts i could find.

sounded cool, not mindblowing or anything.

did it sound any worse than the hand tuned version built by the owner? doubt it.

do i care? not for an extra $900

oh and it sure is a bastardized tubes screamer though quite different not just a few component tweaks.

Anyone who hates their amp bad enough to pay $1100 or more for an OD should put the money toward a different amp

I have always wanted to try a Klon but can see where danyeo is coming from. I wouldn't WANT to like it that much and then be GASSING for an $1100 pedal. danyeo is hardly a young grasshopper though. Dude freaking rips and gets great tones.

looks clean and at a fair price ;)
specially when people here are paying 3k for these:

look on the bright side, no pun intended, you could have a colour of spray paint for each different model of the year

Wow, I could never bring myself to do that to an amplifier. I'd rather let people copy my work than desecrate what was a cool amp.

EDIT- Lots of thick coax in that amp, that's not the work of Cameron, is it?

who else would spend more time defending the build than on the build itself?

and i agree - i spend way too much time making circuits look stunning, well laid out, etc. serving a purpose and applying function as a first regard is one of the trademarks to a great build in my opinion. no way i could splat a circuit with epoxy and paint that i designed and spent time building. for those that can though, all the power to them.

the URL ends with: CameronJMP/Cameron%20Marshall-1.JPG

guess what it is

It would be much less attrocious if he actually took out the board and coated it without just spraying paint into the chassis. The cornish gooped boards actually look neat and clean. That Cameron mod looks like the work of someone who doesbn't know how to use spray paint well, or mix silicone sealant well. Those are pretty simple tasks so I wouldn't really want to leave a more complex job like an amp mod with the dude.

I think this is pretty much how I feel about the situation. Then again, I've never been a pedal guy. But I suppose people can go a different route and buy an awesome clean amp and go ala carte with their OD/Distortion tones.

I never thought I'd end up doing it but I ended up going with a rack unit for my effects. It just made my life easier. Although I do admit that I miss the special character of certain pedals, it's not enough of a difference for me to justify all the extra tap dancing I have to do. Especially since I'm singing and playing guitar at the same time.

If the guy likes the sound of his amp being pushed by a Klon who is to say that is wrong. Some people like $4000 exotic high gain amp heads. Other people like a Fender Princeton with an overdrive pedal. Just different strokes.

And just for kicks, you gotta really hate an amp to feed a piece of shit like a tube screamer into it

I think the point that a lot of these replies is missing is that the Klon is no longer simply viewed as a tone tool...it has become an investment grade pedal. Much like vintage guitars and amps (or anything with a finite supply/high demand), the price reflects collectability. The vast majority of these aren't sitting on the pedal boards of working musicians.
