I just bought the same pedal for the same money and just sent this guy an offer for his.

So you're the dude driving the prices up. I'd never pay that without hearing it first. And the new ones are supposedly about to come out - finally. All of that being said, if I tried it and thought it was worth it I'd have no problem getting one. ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but what purpose does "gooping" a pedal serve? I'm not a high end gear dude...obviously.

the goop conceals the value of the components from those who don't know how to measure them independant of the circuit.

Yup. The goop also prevents any repairs. ;)

The original builder can repair this pedal in no time. I've yet to hear anything about a broken Centaur though.

its not about repairing them, its protecting his intellectual property rights. I used to lightly dremel off the numbers of the IC's I used, you couldn't tell if it was a transistor array or an 8 bit bi-moss latched driver. Hard to steal on that! But it could still be done by those in the know.
;)

I agree its priced high, but if its not worth it to you, then don't buy it. There are many things in this world that I don't understand the price on, but they are what they are....

Indeed.

I have some paintings my grandmother left me, that I wouldn't part with for $1m... Yet someone else would sell them at a yard sale for $50.

All about value.

Kinda like buying a 1/1 black VHT Classic 2100 with out ever hearing it or seeing it. ;)

I don't get this either! I think I saw someone say that it was to 'protect' the intilectual property of the designer by not showing the circuitry. Though goop just makes me think "Oooooh I wonder what's under there?!:D" and open circuit designs make me go "Oh, it's just some wires and shit"

i dont see what the big deal is with epoxy covered boards.

the user has no reason to be looking inside of it anyway. if the builder decides to do so then he designed the pedal, that is his choice.

it is also not permanent, and can be removed if you know what you are doing. the only reason anyone other than the builder would be doing this though is to void the warranty to make a repair.

in today's world where everyone think's they are an engineer in the music industry i dont blame people for using epoxy - it keeps weary minds out of it.

touche

I bought one of the old gooped up gold ones years ago. I bought it for 300, and sold it a few years later for 600 on EBAY.
I listed it with a buy it now of 600 not realizing how popular they are. I was literally hounded, and it was picked up fast.

If I had the cash to buy one of those, I'd for sure buy one to see if they're as cool as people say. Good for Brad for going for it

i need to find one to borrow for a few days to try.

Mine will be with Rob and Dave at the shop in NoHo until it goes on my board which I will pick up next time out in May. Your more than welcome to run over there and try it.

Brad

I remember wanting one of these way back when, and passing on it because I thought $300 was ridiculous to pay for an overdrive pedal.

Oh well.

I did borrow one once when my band did a show with Kings X, and I ran it in front of a '71 100 Marshall. Sounded AWESOME.

Thanks. Do you care if I borrow it for a few days? Would like to hear one through my rig. I have to pick up my Volcano from Dave anyway.

Th Klon is a great pedal, but the Analogman KOT is pretty incredible for that type of tone IMHO!
