I hope you were looking for honest opinions....

First of all, is this an actual, finished mix of this? If it is read on, if not ignore me... Not sure why it faded out and back in early in the track? Didn't make sense to me musically.

You're obviously a great player, but the tune itself I don't really get. To me, it doesn't really seem like a coherent piece of music, but rather a somewhat random set of ideas for you to deliver your great technique over. The changes seem random and abrupt and nothing seems to resolve like a song (instrumental or vocal) needs to to be memorable. Instrumental songs in particular really need some memorable melodies that recur IMO... it's hard to get into them when it is just fast lead guitar playing over some changing rhythms...

The rhythm guitar needs to come down when you are playing lead as well because it is overwhelming the solos. The drums sound a bit mechanical as well...

The guitar tones are really nice and, as I said, you are a great technical player. I just think the songs needs to be thought out a bit better for people to really appreciate what you can do. Hope this doesn't bum you out - I just wanted to give some honest feedback, and frankly, if you dig it, my opinion doesn't matter anyway...

No, that is not an accurate assessment. And to talk down to me about understanding fusion music because I don't think this composition is good is kinda rude when you put music up on a public forum asking for comments. I listen to plenty of fusion music, have jammed over it, understand it and enjoy it quite a bit, my friend. My comments aren't about "following rules", you are completely missing my point. It is about creating memorable song sections, melodies and soloing that flow into a coherent whole that takes the listener somewhere, regardless of whether those melodies/rhythmic changes are "outside" or not. There is a big difference between your track here and say, what The Aristocrats, or other fusion-y, jammy bands are doing. It's about the quality of the composition and, in my opinion, this needs work. Also, don't really see how this is fusion anyway - the rhythms are pretty standard hard rock stuff...

As you said, all good though...

Steve, you were being kind with your comments.

Geez man, he was just saying the song structure was a little loose and incoherent. Said you were a great player.

Oh well.

Sorry brother, but shred is indeed dead and what you're playing isn't fusion based on any of the styles of fusion that I've been exposed to.

Shred will never die but I think you should listen to this recording and simplify it some. Each part should have an underlying rhythm that repeats and the rhythm patterns are what you use to guide your solo's and the listener along the journey. Some parts sounded messy, I'd get rid of one of the guitar parts in the first 35 seconds. As the others said, you have great skill, I look forward to hearing more from you. :rock: Shred will never die. :D

What exactly do you categorize as shred and at what point would you consider a style "dead."

I have to agree with Steve 's first post .
Tone and riffs start out sounding very Lynch influenced .
As another poster stated scale it back structure it more and it will be an improvement .

I'd like to hear some examples of fusion artists you believe you sound like.

I agree with Steve's comments. Some fret board talent, but nothing particularly memorable about the song or nothing particularly interesting enough to draw me in.
