i'm in the process of changing my rig for the umpteenth time ;)

I'm just having thoughts of getting some kind of i guess ideally fender style clean combo , one for the tone and also to some extent transportation (everthing in one package so to speak)

essentially i'd be just using clean and pedals for everything but a 2 channel combo with some kind of drive channel would be nice, certainly more organic than purely pedals for when i need some drive

combos on the list so far:

fender super sonic
h&k statesman quad el84
peavey classic 30/50
egnater?
laney?

looking for ideas at this stage =) thanks

Personally I would look at a used Rivera combo (e.g. Fandango or everything else from the R-Series onwards), cleans are generally great and work perfect as a dirt pedal basis.

Aside from that I would shortlist:
- Randall RD combos (though I do not dig the look of them, I am tempted to buy the 6v6 based RD20)
- Traynor (YCV40)
- And for sure the super sonic as well - really a great amp.

cool, thanks for the ideas, i'll have a look

Mesa Mk III, IV or V combo

I prefer the Mk III over the Mk V. And you get 3 channels Haven't had a Mk IV yet.

Fender Twin or Deluxe is good also

If your main concern is a great clean channel, I'd have to 2nd Rivera. they are just about the only co making a high gain channel switcher that has cleans that are as good as "Fender" cleans. Their gain channels are nice too!

Check out Mesa/Boogie DC-5. Its a 50w 6L6 two c. with EQ and Reverb. The clean is real nice and the lead is classic Boogie MK tone. The can be found fairly cheap. I bought one a long time ago eBay for $550.00 Killer combo and best amp for the buck I ever bought and I have a few ;) I pair it with a widebody Mesa/Boogie 3/4 back 1x12 with a C90, essentially a 2x12 in a vertical stack.

Whats your budget?

I think a mesa would be a great option. I would also say look into older VHT stuff. I know used.guitarcenter has a bunch of nice VHT combos for pretty decent prices. Maybe some of the newer randall amps, too...but I have yet to try one, so I dont really know how the cleans are.

Randall RM50 and whatever Jaded Faith mods or Salvation mods modules you want!

and RM50's are pretty damn inexpensive right about now just sold both of mine for $350 for the combo and $325 for the head.. and add in two modules of your favorite amp or dream amp for about 2-$300

Check out the Crate Vintage Club 30. A friend recommended the amp to me and I snagged one off CL a few weeks ago.
It's a killer little amp. AC30 type cleans and JCM800 gain channel.
Yes... surprised the hell out of me too.

You could do something similar with an RM50 and a top boost preamp and an SL+ preamp

I agree!!! Great little amp!!!

Splawn Street Rod (may not be the clean you are looking for but damn does the dirty sound good!)
Bogner Shiva

You mentioned fender cleans but if you described the type of gain it would make suggestions easier. Mesa makes a few combo with lonestar cleans see if one of their gains fit your needs. Also fender clean and a gain channel did you look at the fender machete. Originally priced pretty high but most places have it for sale for $700 off and as a result the used prices also dropped below that. Tons of good pedal options if you went strictly with a fender clean only and just used pedals. Maybe just get a few more pedals for more options.

thx for all the responses , just came back from a gig weekend

budget wise , i'm looking at used amps up to around 600 euros (800 usd?) live in europe so the price don't always equate but always looking more options to have a good idea what's out there

i'm thinking a good clean and pedals might be the way forward

gain wise british kind of gains , a solid vox combo might be something to look at it as well
