Yeah this shaping up to be a good one for sure. It's mostly because of the rig-talk community. This is such an active board with so many good guys on it. We are almost at 50 amps already. I went and rented a mail service to receive amps that are shipped to me, so we don't have to sit around the studio all day waiting for Fed Ex or UPS. That can be a major drag. I also have Gregg Sartiano running protools and the Studer 2" so I can play and tweak amps. Gregg is one of the best engineers in LA, just brilliant. And as always Dan McMains will be riding shotgun, playing and dialing in amps with me. I will also have my assistant Amin on hand for security and to help people with gear. If guys bringing their amps want to play and/or dial in settings you are welcome to jump on board. I've got some guitar players possibly coming by; Pete Thorn, Eric Sampson (amazing slide guy) and gonna give Bruce Buillett a call and see if he's down.
I have my studio and rig so dialed in that these clips are gonna be so sick, you're really gonna hear these amps at their best. I'm gonna do it a little different then last years in that we are gonna just freestyle it, play what we feel based on how the amps sounds and what feeling it evokes in the player. Very in the moment. The day will start with the low gain amps and kind of work it's way up in intensity. It will end with boutique and mods amps ala; Friedman, Cameron, Jose, Fortin, Bogner, Splawn, Wizard etc... We are gonna have Cameron, Friedman, Fortin and Jose's go head to head so everyone can hear them in all their glory. And this is not really a shootout it's just an opportunity to hear them in a controlled setting side by side, so for one guy the Jose might really be the one but for another guy he might love the Cameron, Fortin or Friedman better. And honestly after years of this I can tell you it's a game of inches, they all are great and any of them can make great records.
I'm gonna video everything but most likely not sinc the studio recording to the video, with something of this magnitude time wise it would just take to long to line everything up. Plus if I import the audio at full bandwidth into the video session you will lose the audio from the room of everyone, so you will lose the reactions and comments of people as they listen and play the amps live. Which to me is a very important component to the experience. So I'm gonna experiment with the volume levels on the camcorder so I can hopefully get it to not distort at this crazy volume. So the video will just be the camcorders audio and then I will make downloadable studio quality files of each amp. Gonna be tight kids!!!
I'm so excited about this you guys have no idea.
