Yeah Bill I'm sure it would be different sitting in front/ playing it. I'm not sure it has the attack, clarity and wide soundstage I'm looking for.

I played a loaded one. It does not have the attack, clarity and huge sound of the Wizards though it does sound very good. It does the smooth, sustaining saturated thing better than the Wizard for sure though you're not looking for that.

You have to buy German George ;)
Yeah I know.

Thats not what I'm looking for at all. No brown sound stuff either. :)

Basically I like gain but don't want it to sound like it has any. And have a wide enough soundstage to handle the 7 string. Thats where the Wizard falls short for me...not good with a 7 string.

Too bad there is such a long wait for those amps.....can't tie up that much money for that long waiting.

In all seriousness, I actually think that is the exact look they are going for. THe modded Marshall thing. Some people want that.

Personally, I would rather have a clean sheet design and layout, but I totally respect the fact that guys still like the look of old Marshalls / modded Marshalls. By working around a chassis of another amp, you end up laying things out with controls in places that you can't get to at a gig etc etc. But like I said, each to their own. What is important to me may mean nothing to the next guy.
I'm sure thats a big part of it, having that look. But if I'm paying a large chunk of money for something that looks like that, it should be the real deal. :)

I'm sure the Friedman is nice, but that's not what I'm looking for tonewise. Too saturated.
I think you'd dig it if you dialed it in yourself. All the clips are pretty gainy but the amp does low/mid gain very well too and has a great dynamic response.
Yeah Bill I'm sure it would be different sitting in front/ playing it. I'm not sure it has the attack, clarity and wide soundstage I'm looking for. The other thing thats a drag for me is it looks like a Marshall. Don't get me wrong, I like the looks of an old plexi but not in a modern amp. I know its lame, but amps using those types of chassis/headboxes look like modded amps to me.

Yeah, I understand that and would prefer it to have it's own look as well but ultimately the appearance only enters into the equation for me when all else is essentially equal. Tonally it does what I need it to do which is why I have it.

I played a loaded one. It does not have the attack, clarity and huge sound of the Wizards though it does sound very good. It does the smooth, sustaining saturated thing better than the Wizard for sure though you're not looking for that.
I never played a Wizard (I want to) so I can't comment on that but I think a lot of people are missing what the Marsha can do in their assements. No doubt it does the smooth, sustainy thing very well but when you dial the gain back (9:00 +/-) it has great attack and clarity. Most people seem to run the gain up high and go for the "woo-woo" lead sounds and big hairy rhythms, but it can get pretty spanky if you dial it in to do so. My rhythm tone is dialed in somewhat similar to Jake on the second Badlands album...aggressive but not overly saturated.

George...do you have any reference tones that are in the ballpark of what you're looking for?

Ha Ha, Rig Talk has gone Dumble clone. Knew it was inevitable.

The following is not solelt aimed towards the comment above, but just the whole lack of respect on this thread. I don't expect respect out the gate, but do expect not to be disrespected.

If you think the amp is a Dumble clone then DUMB is a very operative word !!! I'll happily put it up against any of your modded Marshalls. I'm from england dude, I was modding Marshalls in the early 80's because thats what we had to do for real...not because people on here pay $3500 for one and they have become suddenly 'trendy'. We did it because there was nothing else. Actually I saw as many Parks as Marshalls because I am from the North of England.

I'm in business building amps. To be prejudice against any type of persona, musical style, ability or lack thereof is of no interest to me and is no interest to my business either. I think you will find the same response from any amp builder, if they have an ounce of business savvy that is.

I don't care if people hang out on TGP, friggin HC or here, neither do I care if they are rock stars or can only play in their music room before the kids go to bed, neither do I care if they are Dentists, Doctors, Lawyers, <add any other cliche you wish> or they are full time musicians.

If you want to try the amp, then try it and if you don't like it, then fine, I totally accept whatever criticism you have, but if you want to make judgements about me or my products before you even try one, then what can I say ?

I've owned 54 Marshalls including 24 from the Plexi era. I have a fetish for '73 50W JMP's for some reason ......yet...I've worked on 5 Dumbles but I've worked on probably 2000-3000 Marshalls in the last 25 years. Does that 'gain' me admission in to your club ?

Clearly.....I'm not a STFU sort of builder and clearly I detest the dumble association. I've never built a dumble clone in my life, nor would I want to. I don't even really like them. I sound awful through a dumble. THat doesn't mean he didn't come up with some great circuit concepts and methodologies. For that he has my respect anf yes, sure I learned some things from them.

I actually don't know whats worse the snobbery on TGP or the abrassiveness on here. both places have decent people and dickheads, thats life.

I LOVE this passionate response! :2thumbsup: :rawk:

Thats funny !!!

It's just missing the Robben ford backing track CD on the front cover.

THAT would've been a GREAT addition!!!

You gotta love the TAG video !

Ya, I love that video! Have you seen the wedding coordinator video or the tone is in the fingers one?

They are in my head.  Basically its there with my MC, but I would like it better if the low end was tighter but still solid and full (especially with the 7 string).

Basically I'm looking for something that is very even in its response from the lows to highs. I like gain but don't want it to sound like it has it (if that makes any sense). That fuzzy, saggy kind of tone I don't like. Clarity and attack are good.

I guess you could think of a higher gain version of Back in Black kinda tone but with stronger lows.

I ordered a Triptik when I got back from the show.

Did anyone check out the TZZ17? That amp has alot of gain, and can get a really good 70s/80s Marshall type tone with tons of sustain.

Oh and on the Axe II you need to push alot of air to get a fair comparison to a tube amp. They sound pretty thin at lower volumes, like anything else.

I didn't hear a whole lot more from the Axe II, at least the way it was set up at the show. I'm going to order one eventually when all the frenzy dies down.

Just got back from the NY Amp show. What a waste of time. The only thing I liked was the high gain Carol Ann amp. It ripped though a 1x12. Alan is a cool dude too

Saw, heard and played the Axe-fx II. It's was just plain okay to me. Nothing special   Some great effects, but not worth $2,200...IMHO after playing it. I prefer tubes ;)

That's it!

What sort of amps do you normally play? If you were impressed with the Triptik..? I am GASing for one but I need to know it can also suit my modern metal needs. Has anyone played one plus a Cameron CCV or a CAE OD100 SE+ or CAE PT100 or Fuchs TDS100. I want best cleans and brootz distortion :) Cheers!
