Well it wouldn't surprise me to see many more companies will start making similar decisions. In this latest downturn 2008 to present we don't have the free spending consumers anymore.

Although I am not a big fan of this change, they probably have good reasons (Financial) for this.

IMO the move to do away with all ESP Standards and make the Ltd. Elites the new Standards will ruin ESP, at least in the USA.

They have had ESP Standards in the USA and Europe forever now. Gibson has USA Gibson and Custom Shop Gibson. Why would ESP change from Custom Shop ESP and Standard ESP just to make everything other than Custom Shop seem inferior by labeling it Ltd.?

It's like Gibson deciding to start labeling the USA Gibsons Epiphones and only calling the Custom Shop Gibsons Gibson. How well do you think that would go over sales wise?

ESP has been on the decline for the last several years anyway IMO. This will be the final nail in the coffin if they don't back off of it.

The guitars ESP sells in Japan are already all Custom Shop and Gibson still is the most popular brand in Japan. By doing this now worldwide they IMO hurt themselves even more.

I know they want to keep the ESP name as the top dog in their lineup but IMO it already is even with the ESP Standards. It's not like ESP Standards are looked at as low level junk. They are they superior ESP brand over Ltd. and Edwards with only ESP Custom Shop topping them.

Some may think this move makes sense but IMO it will turn out badly for ESP and their overseas markets. What's up with the new ugly ass logo font also? IMO ESP has been declining for several years and this is another bad move to make that decline worse.

i feel the same way and concur!! i think part of the reason we feel this way is because we was esp board members for a long time and we own a bunch of esp guitars and have seen the days when they was great and then the quality started falling off and the prices increases started getting crazy. alot has changed in the last 7 yrs.

I said all of that on the first page of this thread!

This move will confuse the market and de-value the brand overall. Bad move, IMO.

So true. I still have most of my ESP's from back then. Those were the glory days for ESP IMO. Things have definitely changed alot in those 7 years. Like you said, quality has fallen off pretty big IMO and prices are way up.

I've really lost intrest in buying any new ESP's in a long while due to those and other things. I still love the ESP's I have now but don't see any new ones in the future, especially if the changes happening now go thru. It just continues to decline.

Who would have ever imagined back in our ESP forum days that regular ESP's would no longer exist? It would be either Ltd. or full blown Custom Shop.
