I'll shut up about the Friedman Jose after this, but EytschPi42 said in his most recent video that a Jose 20-watt is planned but will not be an NAMM this time.

The Driftwood sounds quite nice at low volume, but who the hell plays at a volume that low even at home? The squealing Mark IIC+ RI comes to mind when I think of demos like that. I can even hear people talking and walking over that.

As The Who sung, "We won't be fooled again." Would love to hear more clips. Driftwood has a good reputation among some members, I know, I've never tried one unfortunately.

I could really care less because a Vox tone is not my thing. :D
Me either. I don't think i've ever figured out the Vox sound. I don't even know really what it is.

I think Brian May played one and the Beatles. That is the extent of my knowledge. I'm probably way off but to me the Vox is a low gain distorted sound with less low end.

I already have an XK-5 as part of my A-3, so not GASing too bad; however,

the new Hammond XK-7D was announced at NAMM and is available for pre-order.

Yes - it's a good sound, but just not anywhere close to a high gain, saturated, heavy tone. A lot of rock bands figure out interesting ways to use them.

cross section of classic ac tones

although i wasn’t so much a fan of AC30s i mixed for a ton of guys who played pedalboards rigs using them during the 90s-00s because it seemed the whole youth generation at church wanted to be the Edge. only a very few of those instances were with guys who had a nice sounding amp and knew exactly what they were doing. many were muddy/bad speakers/crap tubes etc

the chimey twang of a good AC balanced properly with the fleshy midrange of the pushed EL84s running hot is a very addicting feel thing. well kept vintage specimens with healthy nos tubes and speakers is a magic combo.

i was blown away by the early Eggie vox modules and how they seemed to capture most of the right vox magic. i scored a randall top boost module that i had modded by bruce egnater and it is uncanny.

i bought an AC30 CC head last year for super cheap but it had too many issues (reverb/trem) to keep—fun to have around for a while but my module sounds better.

I am a bit disappointed that they discontinued the SYN 30 - I was lucky to get one of the few last ones in a combo. Would have loved to see that with an IR section incorporated, master volume, and maybe ability to switch from 5881s to EL34s
Just saw they came out with a Synergy combo!

Can this thread get any worse, this is full of lack luster/low T supplemental 20w and new keyboards? RT really waiting for this?!?

Man I was gonna say this too. For a board that used to be anti modeler or anything not a huge tube amp, this board is sure as fuck focused on a god damn 1500 dollar IR loader

I'm a huge AC30 fan. That’s my go to for cleans and breakup sounds. I mained a stock AC30C2 for years in an indie rock band, which made me more money than any of my heavy bands ever have, hah. AC30 with Greenbacks, a couple of Hotcakes, and a DMM and I can cover a lot of ground.

I’ve disliked most of Friedman’s amps. I feel like his entire career has been neutering Marshalls, and now he’s moving onto other British amps. He does have a couple amps he knocked out of the park though, so I’ll reserve judgement until I can plug into one sometime.

It’s a lot more than that, but that’s kind of true. Marks big on the orange vintage mode, and that was “kind of” a starting point. But, I highly doubt anyone is gonna plug in and be like “yes this is totally a recto”. The input/front end is what mark mostly enjoys about Rectos, they are incredibly versatile with boosts while most modern high gain amps give you very little flexibility in this area.
I want one

I'm not on board with designs that have the boost pedal built in. I was interested bc it has the expanded power section until I found out about it so I bought the new blackout triple. I was sold after I found out they nixed the LDR's. Those delays have always had issues with bleed and failing completely.

Looks like Suhr made a Peter Frampton signature head, PF100. I haven’t heard anything about this. $3099.
Says it’s based off Suhr’s British models, 3 channels with a mosfet boost that can be used on each channel and full midi. Maybe a modified SL?

“Channel one is a classic American-voiced clean with punchy lows and infinite headroom. It responds beautifully to pedals and features a Crunch mode that pushes it into warm, expressive overdrive when needed.
Channels two and three deliver the ultimate high-gain tones with harmonic richness and sustain that make solos sing. Inspired by Suhr’s legendary modded British circuits, these channels provide everything from thick rhythm crunch to screaming lead tones that cut through any mix.”
