Looks like EMG doing the voice options now, catching up with Fishman. I wonder if we’ll start seeing 81 and 85 options with voicing too.

The link and picture are for Seymour Duncans, did you mean to share a different set? That said, interesting to see SD's marketing copy for these. They seem to be hammering the "real coil" aspect. I wonder if the voicings are just different eq circuits like what some more exotic pickup companies have been exploring.

cross section of classic ac tones

although i wasn’t so much a fan of AC30s i mixed for a ton of guys who played pedalboards rigs using them during the 90s-00s because it seemed the whole youth generation at church wanted to be the Edge. only a very few of those instances were with guys who had a nice sounding amp and knew exactly what they were doing. many were muddy/bad speakers/crap tubes etc

the chimey twang of a good AC balanced properly with the fleshy midrange of the pushed EL84s running hot is a very addicting feel thing. well kept vintage specimens with healthy nos tubes and speakers is a magic combo.

i was blown away by the early Eggie vox modules and how they seemed to capture most of the right vox magic. i scored a randall top boost module that i had modded by bruce egnater and it is uncanny.

i bought an AC30 CC head last year for super cheap but it had too many issues (reverb/trem) to keep—fun to have around for a while but my module sounds better.

I had the Vox Heritage amps, the AC15H1TV and the AC30H2 both with Celestion blues, both had the Normal channel replaced with an EF86 channel, I used an AB to channel switch and an (still have) original JangleBox based on the Ric preamp in the Roger McGuinn signature guitar which really brought out the jangle and chime I wanted with the Top Boost channel; I ran the EF86 channel dirty....both amps are long gone.

The latest Vox handwired amps included an AC-30 head which I planned to buy, it's still on the Vox website but haven't seen one in stock to buy anywhere:

Yep you’re right, read up on them and then totally got that mixed up in my head. Damn…
Well I think EMG could do a lot with their range if they added voicings. Like an EMG-81V but still keep the original 81 for example.

Man I was gonna say this too. For a board that used to be anti modeler or anything not a huge tube amp, this board is sure as fuck focused on a god damn 1500 dollar IR loader
let me put a knife in it for you guys

Paul Gilbert and Steve Morse were fun to watch. They jammed some tunes from Gary Moore, Aerosmith & Johnny Winter

For 71, Steve still shreds.

At the Friedman booth, they had a setup to jump through 8 different amps. It was the first time I was playing through any of these models.

NAMM is a very noisy environment and they were set up at a low volume but they all sounded great, I could own any of them and I would be very happy.

The guitar they handed me was a well up Friedman SSS type and it sounded pretty good with the new Vox style amp. I am not pretty good at describing sound but I would say the amp had "sparkles", I really dig it. Also, the "Plexi" style model (don't remember the name of it) really rocked.

Now saving my money and planning being a future owner for sure.

Paul seems to suffer from Lynchitis'...never the same pedals on his board despite him endorsing a bunch of them or having aig pedals. He just keeps rolling tgeiugh mediocre tone since no longer playing through boosted laney's
