Yes, I don't shoot it often, but it's a literal and figurative "blast" every shot! :D

Also, looks like I'm going to enjoy my 7.62 NATO long gun (24" barrel) for awhile it seems, since the Barrett MRAD SMR in 300 PRC doesn't seem to be available for sale ATM, at least not in black, or locally; not much more but shipping to a local FFL adds complexity IME. Now, the standard MRAD is available locally, and an additional cost...I suppose it would be nice to have the ability to change barrels/caliber for another $2K, and another ~$2K each
Yeah that stings anyway you slice it. Honestly if I got the quick change upgrade I think I would get another barrel of the same caliber, and when that barrel is done you could swap out to the same thing without having to take it to a competent gunsmith, unless of course you feel comfortable doing that yourself. A weapon of that build quality level would likely take several tools you probably don't already have to change out the barrel on a non-quick change model. I love the quick change feature, I just can't justify the logistical side of changing calibers, compiling and developing load data, then spending all that time and effort developing drop charts all over for another caliber, when (if thats what you end up with)
a 300PRC is a total ass kicker that likely won't let you get 3000 rds out of the barrel before the barrel is smoked ;)
Just thinking out loud FWIW

That 24" 762 will take you out to 1200 yds all day long for half the cost in ammo, enjoy it!

Ammo isn't too bad right now all things considered. Except 5.56. I wasn't screwing around though after the last panic buying price hike bullshit. I'm uncomfortable even giving a vague estimate of what I'm sitting on. At some point in the not too distant future I will be forced to replenish the 5.56 if I want to stay above my "Comfort level". 9mm, #1, #4 and 00B are all reasonably priced enough where I routinely replace what I shoot. I'm a range junkie. All 4 seasons, all weather conditions. 6-8 days a month minimum. I couldn't keep that pace when I was younger and had a kid at home and other obligations. These days it's work, looking after my elderly parents and the range or training classes.
Holy shit!
6-8 days a month is a metric shit ton of shooting!
I get 3-4 days on a good month
But yeah, Im in the same boat, work, elderly parents who are in poor health and some trigger time in what's left. My wife loves to shoot also, so I have that going for me, but she only shoots pistols and AR's. She loves red dots on pistols, and loves shooting steel :D

Don't we all. :)

I should mention the club I belong to has multiple ranges and is 8 miles away. Plus I have a 30 yard range in my back yard so....

well being the Socialist Republic of Massachusetts, now that the worst anti gunner (Healey) is the Governor, we will never
see constitutional carry. The freaking laws they already have on the books here are a joke , and now that she is in all of the commies in Beacon Hill keep trying to roll out even stricter laws. Can't wait to retire and get out of this state

Head south.

I'm right eye dominant, but I'll shoot pistols both ways just in case I loose my right hand to an injury.
Never thought of that. Good advice. If I put my 9mm in my left hand it would feel extremely awkward. I need to get on that.

PS: I'm left eye dominant, both eyes open. Thumb on thumb grip. Been mostly practicing on the press not pull thing Floyd was talking about. I doubt I'd be able to hit anything at 100 yards though.

Sure you could. I’m not a particularly good shot and I can do it. A dot helps. And proper grip.

It feels extremely awkward for longer than you want it to, but it gets better with repetition . One of my trainers took a hit on his right hand in a gunfight and could not use it at all. He said "Think about it, if someone is shooting at you they are likely aiming right at your chest, which is where your hands and weapon are"
Made perfect sense

Nice!
I have to drive over an hour to get to the Altus range, but we have a private smaller range 5 min from our place. We mostly use it for pistols and confirming zero on long guns so we are not wasting time at Altus.
BTW the Altus range is ultimate for anything but skeet shooting, you ever get in that area we should go shoot stuff. You gotta be a member or a guest of a member to get in, but Ive been a member there for years. We can outfit a bay any way you like with steel to run drills on. You can use barricades, rock piles, vehicles, or the urban tactical course. They do military and LE training there during the week, so the layout is very impressive. The long distance courses are fantastic. You can do known distance or unknown, which they change constantly, out to 1200 yds. Great stuff

Damn. That looks nice.

The club I belong to is primarily a hunting club. About 6 of the 12 ranges are shotgun courses and they breed and train Brittany’s and other bird dogs. They do have some open ranges as well as pistol, rifle and 1000 yard though. And I’m the welder so my membership is free and I get free reign. I got a couple of rich buddies ( doctor and a lawyer) and we go in at night and play with NFA and class 3 stuff with NV and thermal.

I pretty much train to what my reality is so I forego the battle belts and plate carriers usually. I try to train how I carry for the most part. The exceptions being hanging with the rich dudes and my once a month 5 hour foray with the crayon eaters.
