If I had only one song to share with someone to encapsulate everything that’s great with the band, it’s I’m the One. Rhythm section swings like a mofo, Dave’s vocal swagger and his his hard-rock-Mark-Twain ability to turn a phrase, great vocal harmonies, it’s clearly a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously (the doo-wap breakdown), and Ed ALMOST pulls out his entire bag of tricks.

Dude van Hagar was different I know but it’s still great .

I could never get into it. Van hagar and his voice were never to my liking. Even EVH’s playing was different. Sure, he still ripped, but that raw edge and the bad assery were gone, replaced by power drills. His songwriting was now geared towards radio hits and upbeat hagar vocals. It was quite simply, a totally different band. Just like GNR lost their raw edge after AFD and had their polished November rain radio and mtv sound. The use your illusion albums were complete garbage to me compared to AFD. Also, the departure of Izzy and his songwriting. VH had the same situation.

Use Your Illusion albums are my all time favorite album ever . Absolutely loved it . Ingenious. Super progressive and they dud everything. I still jam it
