Finally decided to add a 4th stage to the MOAB. It’s been 3 stage + variable diodes since I started doing them. No lack of gain at 3 stages but I decided to try 4 on my personal MOAB and I love it.

Yesterday, my buddy brought over his JMP 50w that I had previously modded with the 3 stage circuit. I added the 4th stage, which is TIGHT in a small 50w chassis. But it came out stellar and fits great. The little amp is a brutal beast with the added stage.

I voice the 4th stage to stay tight, clear, and articulate just like the 3 stage. Of course it sounds different, but it doesn’t get muddy or lose the base character of the amp. The amp is very quiet and has virtually no added noise with the 4th stage. And all on AC heaters, which I prefer the sound of.

Here’s a couple photos of the guts and clips of both 3 and 4 stages. Hi input is 4. Low is 3.

Man that sounds amazing. Is the sound of the stock third gain stage affected at all?

Sounds killer. Now make the two footswitchable ??
This adds SO MUCH complexity PTP that I can’t even summarize it all in one thread. My amp is footswitchable but it’s a total PITA.

Sounds great dude! Killer 3 stage tone - I think I prefer that boosted but the 4th stage is solid too.

Thanks man, it really adds a whole new dimension to the amp.

3rd stage isn’t affected whatsoever. When in the low input it completely bypasses the 4th stage and is just like it wasn’t there. So you can retain the original base tone.
I love it when you don’t loose option of bone stock sound.

Did another buddy’s 2203 MOAB today with the 4th stage.

I made an iPad clip. This starts with “pull cut” engaged for for classic tones. Then with it turned off which is the “base” MOAB tone. And then finally into the high input for 4th stage.

How different is this from your ground zero hellion amp?

Hellion is more modern and with more knobs / switches. I call it a Markshall. Like a hot rodded Marshall with some Mesa mixed in.

I will hopefully make the MOAB a production amp as well in the future.

How do we become buddies? ?

Very cool! ??

Just bring a Marshall over!

Sounds killer. You packed a lot in there, impressive! This is what the splatter Marshall needs! Already has the tube, an additional board, and it's full sized chassis. Does the extra stage require any additional knobs or switches?
